I've learned that for every one of the people who I've spoken to about my preps who have given me a look like "this lady should be wearing a tinfoil hat," there is one on this forum who gives me the confirmation and information to continue doing what I need to do to prepare my family for whatever may come.

I've learned a lot of different things. Everything from technical info about comms equipment to proper food storage methods, and the best materials to use for that. Overall, this has been a great "home base" of sorts, where I have been able to start learning about pretty much anything survival related, and get pointed in the right direction to explore that subject further. I kind of started here, and then branched out all over. It was great to get recommendations for good, reputable places to purchase different things, such as heirloom seeds, BOBs, tents and camping gear, mylars, and that type of stuff. And things like the manufacturers and brands of various products. A lot of my favorite stuff, I had never heard of before, until I learned about it on this site; Katadyn, Tactical Tailor, etc, etc. References to medical stuff on here have led me to PatriotNurse on youtube, to get some good medical info. I've found a few different places that offer real good survival medicine classes, tactical shooting courses, and great sources of info about climate, water availability, and all the other things to consider when finding a BOL, or making it your homestead. Reading things that a lot of folks do or have done on here really stimulates some thought, so it's worth noting also, that not only is this a great site to learn and gather new information, but to help stimulate your own creativity and help you modify your own ideas and plans for the better. I have found it very helpful with planning the homestead, and all the systems and considerations to incorporate into one, by learning how you others have set up your solar power, rain collection, etc. The videos have been nice as well; Cleaning rabbits, running trot lines, long term food storage. I was searching youtube and found the video of Protus, I think, filling Mylars with food and O2 absorbers,, and sealing them up, I think it was 3 parts. Anyway, I was so interested in that that I believe I somehow searched the info from there to discover this site. The videos have been very beneficial, and thanks to all the folks on here who post them. Also, I've gotten references to other good sites like thefiringline.com, which is great for firearms info. I've learned a ton on this site, and still learning.

The food storage preps have been very helpful.
I just gain alot of comfort knowing that I am not the only one out there with deep concerns about the direction of the country.
Thanks to everyone who posts here, and especially to the folks running the site, LD3 you rock!

One year? Already? HooAhh!!!
I am really glad that I was able to meet some of the board members at the Douglas, Georgia get together. I'm looking forward to this year.
And a BIG thank you to Robert for running such a clean board. It attracts some good members, to be sure!
And Cimmaron, I'm with ya on the military acronyms that Matt uses, they are different than in my day (I was in when Moses was a corporal)."There is nothing so exhilarating as to be shot at without result." Winston Churchill
