  • what is this on the bottom of my foot? a corn?

the back story. For the past 6 weeks I've been doing couch to 5k cut out sodas (500-600 calories a day right there) reduced my carbs to near zero.

well the last week and 1/2 my right foots been hurting. I've figured....dang I've messed up the bone or something running

today I'm at walmart getting cat littler and I see the doctor soles machine. i jump on it. I immedatly noticed the painful area of my foot isn't red. hmmmm wth. i get off the machine after getting the insole recommendation and decided lets look at the bottom of my foot.

    and I find this:

i touch it. holy *(*^& it hurts.

i start poking around and realize THATS the source of my pain. its not the bones in my feet its this thing!

i've never had anything worse than a blister before, never had a bunyon or a corn or anything else before.

wth? is this thing and what do i need to do about it? i don't have health insurance so home/pharmacy treatments are within my reach.

It may be a plantar wart. They can hurt like heck!

      Symptoms
Unless feet are checked regularly, the first time a person is aware of plantar warts is pain when walking. Then on checking their soles they may notice an unusual rough crusty lump that feels tender and sore.

Plantar warts are sometimes mistaken for corns or calluses but there are several differences to look out for when trying to determine if you have a plantar wart or something else. Plantar warts have one or more black pinpoints within the growth. These pinpoints are actually clotted blood vessels. Calluses are smooth and clear.

Plantar warts also have well defined boundaries and rough surfaces whereas calluses are less defined around the edges and are have much smoother surfaces.

      Treatments
      ...
Plantar warts can be eradicated by salicylic acid which is available from drug stores. Applied daily to the troubled area, the solution breaks down viral cells and can lead to wart removal in about four weeks.

yeah I posted this elsewhere and yeah the consensus was its a plantar wart. the stuff for corns are warts are the same but with plantar warts its a higher concentration of of the salicylic acid. looks like I'm spending another $5 on the wart stuff yeah.

From the pic it looks like a wart (verruca vulgaris). Do not spend the money on the "freeze" spray as it's just not cold enough. On the foot you may want to try duct tape. You may have some duct tape around the house and it's cheaper than the medicine.

I had one few years back....but with mine it was on the heel of the foot and hurt like the dickens......I too bought the freeze dry treatment pack...in fact multiple times....however it dawned on me one day that the treatment was nothing more than a canned air turned upside down.....so I went into the computer room and grab my super sized can and using the straw on the can, commenced to freeze the heck out of said wart......after about 3 days of my own treatment....the wart disappeared.....If it is in fact a plantar wart, have comfort knowing the wart is on the side of your heel, and not on the bottom of heel where you would place all your weight......

If all the home remedies fail, go the a Nurse Practitioner. They're fees are very reasonable and you usually get a lot of attention and care.

It looks like a plantar wart to me also. I had one years ago and it felt like I was stepping on a nail everytime I put my heal down.

I went to a Dr. but I like the idea of a Nurse Practioner. They can show you how to deal with it on your own.

I had one several years ago (plantar) and tried all the stuff over the counter that didnt work. My solution, I tried the duct tape which didnt work but it DID soften it enough so that it was starting to pull away from the sides a little. I iced it up real good till it was a little numb, sterilized a torq head screwdriver (about the same dimension as the wart) had my wife torch the screwdriver till good and hot yanked it out with needle nose pliers then cotterized it with the torq. Worked like a charm, no infection, made me feel like Rambo (tough and stupid). I think I'd go to the Doc if I got another one though. these type have DEEP roots (I was unaware) and bleed with a vengence. By the way dont do this, I was broke with no insurance.

This is definately a plantar wart. I had several on my feet last winter. I went months without doing anything about it other than trying to dig them out with a knife, which I later regretted because the doc said it just drove them deeper each time that I got down to them but didn't get them out. The really large ones required surgery to remove but after that I had a few small ones to pop up. Thankfully no surgery was needed for them, just a quick few drops of acid cleared them up. My advice is go see your nearest foot doctor to get over them as quickly as possible, the longer you wait the worse it will be and the more trips you may have to make going back to the doctor.
