Hair Care Post SHTF

I think looking feminine is a good defense. Not because your would be attackers would swoon at your feet, but rather they tend to under-estimate you. The assumption that I am a weak, defenseless female, could get them killed.

I have a huge stockpile of shampoo and conditioner among other personal products. I have alot of water stored thats not considered drinking water (we also have a creek along our property). We have a solar shower, so I do intend to wash my hair. I have long auburn hair past my butt, its too pretty to cut!!! I'm sure I'll wear my hair up in a pony and braid most of the time. Thats the way I train, so I'm comfy that way. With that said, I'm currently learning how to use my braid as a weapon. I intend on getting removable metal spikes at the end of my braid, but I'm not ready in my training for them yet.

As for the men in my household, I've stockpiled razors for them but haven't thought to much about their head hair. Will probably use scissors and a razor (for cleaning up the neck and ears) but they will be wearing their straw cowboy hats most of the time. They'll be fine!!

If worse comes to worse, I'll go with the dreds idea.

I already cut my husbands hair and my son's hair. We also have a year's supply of razors and razor heads as it is. I like my husband clean-shaven, and I know he likes me the same, and we plan to maintain that. : D We also have a year's supply of shampoo and conditioner, although I don't think we'll be washing as often as we do now. Luckily we have a creek right behind our house to do some washing in, but I think me and my daughters are probably just going to pull our hair back and cover it with a bandana or head covering of some kind (referred to by my husband as "frizzle frocks") often. Hair care is something that's in the bag for us.

I'm with Monkeybird & MustangGal! I have lots of ponytail holders & hairclips (my usual hairdo of choice). We have lots of razors, shampoo, conditioner, & items to use for dry shampoos. Hubby decided shaving was a definate necessity for both of us! lol

I reckon that with the power out and the salons closed there will be a large contingent of out-of-work hair mechanics with scissors, many of whom live nearby and would trade three haircuts for a can of soup!

I shave my head and face except for a goatee. I have a large supply of disposable razors and after they're gone I plan on using a straight razor.

It's funny , I was just thinking about this , this morning . I do believe that keeping a cleaner look can help when SHTF , Im not talking about hair styles , but at least keeping it decent . If you show up somewhere needing help , I think the same rules would apply about looking like a decent human being . If you show up looking like a hairy dirty greasy dirtbag ( through noones fault ) , then you will get treated as such . Impressions are hard to change , just like an opinion . If someone showed up asking me for help and looked like he cared enough to take care of himself , I would be more inclined to help said person , instead of a person showing up , who looked like they hadnt done any personal care in ages . I will just use my hair clippers and toss a number 6 on it and clip away . It might look like a bowl cut , but shows I do care about hygiene . I have shampoo , razors , soap and more then a few pairs of scissors if needed in my buckets , it might be a waste of water , but I think it will pay off in how I look and feel .

not sure really,keeping clean is a priority but the hair and beard will most likely grow untill it drives me crazy then will have to handle it.

i still keep mine close crop- i do have a pair of battery operated clippersand siccors(sp lol) but i imagine i just might let it grow out for a spell, hard to say tho as if i go more than a month w/o a shave i feel like a long haired hippy
