My wife loves to garage sale, mainly going not selling LOL.;)
Today she picked me up 2 propane tanks for $5 each. I just expanded my ability to live comfortably for a while now. I now have that dedicated tank for my heater and one spare for whatever. They run about $40 brand new and you gotta have them filled up or exchanged just like the used ones I got. You do an exchange and get a better tank than the used one or a worse one than the new one.
I have found guns, knives, ammo, camping gear, fishing gear, small game livestock, fencing material, books and manuals, clothes, food preparation/storage stuff, trailers, gardening instruments and a ton of other stuff to help me with my preparations.
As with anything you purchase check it carefully before buying, but it being broken doesn't make it worthless by any means. I have repaired fishing reels for the cost of cleaning out gunk in the gears, I have bought broken knives with lifetime warranties, I have repaired all kinds of gear for a fraction of the cost. It also helps you develop the skills so that when gear goes down you know what to do and what it will take.
I also need to bring up that you need to know when to cut loses and let something go when it breaks after it reaches a dated age in which it requires more attention than operation time. Some folks get attached to that lantern or this fishing reel and truth is, well, it's junk. If it cost me more than about 40% new cost to fix I just let it go.
Spring is here as well as garage sale season so look around, it's free and ya never know what treasures for the prepared lurk about!
