  • Garage/Yard Sales

My wife loves to garage sale, mainly going not selling LOL.;)
Today she picked me up 2 propane tanks for $5 each. I just expanded my ability to live comfortably for a while now. I now have that dedicated tank for my heater and one spare for whatever. They run about $40 brand new and you gotta have them filled up or exchanged just like the used ones I got. You do an exchange and get a better tank than the used one or a worse one than the new one.
I have found guns, knives, ammo, camping gear, fishing gear, small game livestock, fencing material, books and manuals, clothes, food preparation/storage stuff, trailers, gardening instruments and a ton of other stuff to help me with my preparations.
As with anything you purchase check it carefully before buying, but it being broken doesn't make it worthless by any means. I have repaired fishing reels for the cost of cleaning out gunk in the gears, I have bought broken knives with lifetime warranties, I have repaired all kinds of gear for a fraction of the cost. It also helps you develop the skills so that when gear goes down you know what to do and what it will take.
I also need to bring up that you need to know when to cut loses and let something go when it breaks after it reaches a dated age in which it requires more attention than operation time. Some folks get attached to that lantern or this fishing reel and truth is, well, it's junk. If it cost me more than about 40% new cost to fix I just let it go.
Spring is here as well as garage sale season so look around, it's free and ya never know what treasures for the prepared lurk about!

    Hi Matt,

Let me make you a question:

How do they work the garage/yard sales? Is it free? Could you put in sale your things on your garage/yard any day of the year or only some "special" days?
Unfortunately in my country we can't sell our things in a stand on the street because it's illegal...

Well my foreign friend it varies. Some cities have city wide sells where everyone in town does it. Some folks do it on their own, there might be a small fee for the town you live in but if you live out in the country it's free.
You just put out your junk in your yard, throw up a sign and let folks drive up and rumage through it. You can put prices on stuff and sometimes they will try and talk you down some. If it's worth gettin that junk out of your hair then sell it at a discount.
A good deal is where both folks are happy!

I just had a garage sale to get rid of stuff I didn't need. It was very successful. There is no permit required in my area of the U.S. to have a garage/yard sale and no fee as long as it's at your home. However, if I put up a 'stand' like on the corner or something, I'm sure the city would say something

You can't even sell your things on your front yard or in your driveway? That's the way we Americans do it. We don't even get taxed on it.

Again the "fix" for the fuse isn't recommended unless it's an absolutly got get it done. You run the risk of burning up the invertor and/or the appliance running at the time.

Well, the majority of people we live in flats, so we don't have any front yard/driveway. I would love to have a "typical american house"...

Also, there are two kinds of yard sales. The we-need(or want)-cash-so-we-priced-everything-sky-high or the get-rid-of-stuff kind. The first, IMO, it is best to just move on. I've seen things priced higher than new. The second can be a gold mine!

We are about to have our second ever yard sale. It will be the get-rid-of-stuff kind.

I do love me a good yard sale. Today I just picked up two 250gallon watertanks for $60 each talked him down from $100. I kinda felt bad bt the guy told me he wanted both gone at once and all I had on me was $120 and he took it. Good day for me.
