Well for the past two days or so I've been out of the loop. Seems that I suddenly loss my connection to the net.
First you follow the standard directions to re-set your router and your modem. Ok - after you do that SEVERAL times, you call the cable company who tell you to do it again!
You call the router customer service folks - and get the same message - re-set it again. Then they add - re-download the software.
Then you call the cable company demanding a repair man - who comes, can't find a thing wrong, but installs a new modem anyway.
Then you re-set you router only to discover - you still can't connect to the net.
In frustration, I purchased a new router - and miracle or miracles - I got connected.
Now, during the time I was our of a workable router - my beautiful MacBook found 3 networks all of which had locks and 2 of which let me jump on board. The first time it happened I thought my router was finally working as was shocked to see someone else's network pop up. So, never assume you are completely secure. NEVER. Both these private networks had the lock boxes clearly shown beside the network name and I should have been prompted for a password but was not.
My non functional Cisco router is only 4 months old! Of course I don't have a receipt, but I'm going to try and return it anyway.
Just remember - you are really never secure.
