Most of Rawles reasoning is the political climate in what he calls "the American Dedoubt" states, their more conservative slant and gun-friendly laws. He has a vision of preppers and conservatives moving to that area and becoming the dominant political force, even mentioning secession as a possibility. It sounds good but the odds of it coming to pass are pretty slim IMHO.

BTW, he lives in north central Idaho.

      "Ben Raines.... Contact us!"

Seems like I read that plan before somewhere...
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

LOL, that's what I was thinking as I wrote that, 1Admin. Or something like the book, "Molon Labe".

Most folks will be unwilling to move away from the region they grew up in. I wa raiesd in Pa Md & Virginia. I went to Walla Walla Wa for college. The North West is a great area, But I did not understand farming in this region. Garding was not to bad. I lived and worked in the northwest for 6 years. Hunting and fishing were great. The area has a lot to offer. Would I conder moveing back yes, would the wife consider move out west? NO. Such is life and I will stay in Virginia. We have a great dal to offer people who want to be self reliant also.

OK......I'm finally going weigh in on this.........we're HERE! in the far NW corner of MT, 2 miles from the ID line. We moved from the peoples repulik of Mizzoola 11 months ago. My wife is a native Montanan and I grew up on a cranberry farm in SE Mass. First climate and gardening: we had 22 below twice last winter and a total of 7 feet of snow. We heated our 2200 sqft log home with 4 1/2 cords of wood and had the backup propane heater turned on only twice! We purchased 15 yrds of rich black dirt and tilled up 1500 sqft. We have just about everything growing in our garden! From eggplant to sweet potatos.....my wife has canned over 30 quarts of pickles......the only real failure was corn.
We have pigs and a relacement flock of chickens........our free-range chickens moved up from Missoula, ran head long into free-range mountain lions. Next spring we'll add another horse and a Dexter milk cow. We're in the process of putting out a steer to finish off over the winter. We've seen wolves but they have stayed back from the house. We have 3 German Shepherds which seem to keep most of the smaller varmints away from us.
There is work to be had here.......IF you really want to work! We have taken our Rawles views to heart. His blog and writings inspired us to make this move well before he began his Re-Doubt concept. My mouse is on a SB pad! Another major influence has been Mike Bunker's "Living Off-Off Grid".....this book came out last winter and brought on an even deeper desire for self-sufficency I wouldn't trade this place or AO for anything. To live here you really have to want it........you can't live this life simply from your key board. Our one and only dissapointment has
been finding a true Bible believing church.
Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

I would love to move to a new region far from my birthplace and even farther from where I am now, I'd love the wilderness in Alaska, alas the Mrs won't even let me even think about that move. LOL
