List of active nuclear reactors in the US. Good to know your neighbors... http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/operatin...tor-units.html
Most people don't think about it but I planned my home site and other operational locations to be at least 50 miles from an active reactor, I am pleased that none of my extended family are within that range either.
However, it isn't just that you might have a nuclear plant in your back yard, or a research reactor at the university, or a nuclear fuel cycle facility up the road, the reality is that there is only so much on-site storage of spent fuel before they have to use casks and transport it by road or rail to "somewhere else." Low-level waste is transported and stored in South Carolina, Utah, and Washington and high-level waste in Nevada (Yucca Mountain.)

Nice link. I was actually thinking of going to work at the one in Arkansas when I get tired of being on a boat 8 months out of the year, and because there is some nice land up there to be had. The land would be a good hour or so away. I guess I have Nuke meltdown kind of low on my list if likely threats. I'll have to make sure it isn't a union workplace first, LOL. "It's not my job to turn that cooling pump switch back on, call the electrician." - "I'll be there after break."

Just hoping the guy (now guys) at MIT are right and there's nothing to worry about. The original article the guy said the worst that would happen in a complete meltdown is all the rods would become a goop in the bottom of the containment structure with no effects outside the structure. But now, they've removed that part. The revised edition is here:
