  • JAPAN disaster & nuke plant explosion... What does it means FOR US?

Nuclear Reactor in Japan blows up...

Besides the sad effects in Japan, what does all this mean for US? The world? Our economies?
    • Massive coastal flooding
    • Highways and infrastructure shifted, moved or destroyed
    • One of Japan's Nuclear Reactors blows up
    • Other nuclear plants in danger
    • Coastal shipping ports severely damaged
    • Unshipped inventory in port areas destroyed or damaged
    • Long-term power supply problems (less manufacturing)
    • Astronomical rebuild costs & possible insurance company failures
    • Manpower & resources going to rebuilding rather than export and manufacturing

I am not an expert, but I think this event may be the PUSH that sends the fragile, teetering economies of the world over the edge... (Except for those that actually MAKE THINGS, like China, where business will be booming)

How will this affect japanese auto imports (I have two Toyotas and love them)? Japanese electronics (most high-end electronics are made in Japan)? Computer components (memory plants in Japan)?

The long-term effects could be terrible for us... Makes preparedness all the more important...

I am (yes this may sound harsh) quite pissed that Hussein offered the US at any cost to help rebuild Japan.

WE HAVE NO FREAKING MONEY!! GET IT THROUGH YOUR DUMB PRESIDENT HEAD!!

Well first we just released 100,000,000 yen (not alot actually, only $1,207,437.54 in US dollars) as our first financial aid to Japan.

Second, I thought they said the radiation was not at a level that would pose a risk to anybody in the US? OK so my thought of a washington state hide away is not looking so good anymore...

The map above is only IF there's a meltdown. They're claiming to have everything under control.

Apparently, even a meltdown isn't particularly dangerous except to the plant owners, according to this guy from MIT:

Sheesh. The good old US of A is bankrupt. Broke. Spent. Impoverished. We're going to have to borrow that $1.2 billion from the Chinese to help the Japanese, but when the Japanese dump their U. S. Treasuries, who's going to save us from OUR OWN FINANCIAL EARTHQUAKE???

For some reason I dont think 750 RADS is that bad. I'm not making a claim, I just once heard that it wasn't that bad.

Rawles mentions on his site that this map is bogus.

750 rads is TERRIBLE- if it's true.

All you need is about 150 rads in a relatively short period of time- week or so, and you'll start getting sick.

750 rads even over the course of a week, and your dead. LD/50 is about 300 in a week IIRC.

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

is there anyway to protect against the exposure that is sure to come. heck even if it just gets into the water supply. if there a way to detect if your water has been exposed or if this cloud of stuff has hit your area. i mean i guess you can watch the news but i realy dont trust anything the regular media say. i think they are playing this way down. i mean...a melt down of a nuclear facility isnt that bad...right. i think this is real bad and it probably going to get worse as the other four reactors start going up as well. what do yall think

what do i need to get to help my family survive?
                            water filter.
                            pot. iodide? sp?
                            gas mask?
                            food?
                            solid basement?
                            house on a hill?
house not near a fault line.
                            ---
my ole gray matter is going nuts seeing the radiation and water and land upheaval "hit the fan"
and thinking what a visual demonstration of what i should be ready for...
                            and i ain't ready!

                            what a learning opportunity.
