Another option would be for a member to submit a blog article(s) and/or a vid. Maybe make some min. specs for articles and vids to weed out junk. I wouldn't care if there were duplicates (duplicates articles/vids can confirm or denounce so that isn't all bad), it would show that they are somewhat serious to take the time to write a blog or do a vid.

Blog articles should have sources sited IMO, they don't have to be 200 page dissertations. Vids are great hands demonstrations and can get some nice feedback which is beneficial to all.

Or am i being to analytical?

doing something like would help build the community here. But many still look for that "free" ride. We cant stop lurkers. Which is why there is the member forums.( look at how much bs Alpha R.com gets for being invite only, required post limits per whatever etc)
I think a movie, article, or how to would be a great way to involve folks.
Wanna get in with out your 10 post. lets say you have 5. Make a good how to, or well thought out article, submit it in the correct section with a flag/im/email to a mod/admin to proof it ( make sure there is no copy past ,copy write stealing)..then get the person approved to move into the members area.
If the person wants to lurk from then out, well thats up to them.
