  • heat.. a.k.a it is Hot in my area

i've got lots of outside projects on my "list" right now..
frequently, i change shirts twice or even 3 times a day.
so, here's the question. a what if!

what if, you/i/we/they live in south flagabama and do not have a big cool blowing breeze off the water 24 hours a day,
and the shtf and no mo electricity running down the wires. it's 90 + degrees hot and humid.
and you've prepped for this by installing a nice big hvac unit and a generator that will run the big wonderful air conditioner and right beside the hvac is a big ole tank full of fuel that will keep the generator going. everyone is nearbout dying from the heat in 2023 but not you/me/us/they because we got us a big ole a/c and its running off the generator/fuel combo.
you've got 2 freezers full of groceries and your crew is set...
you've kept it quiet about your preps... your house is 1/4 mile from the road and no one can hear your generator
you are smarter than the average bear and know that you don't have to run your generator 24 hours a day.
lets just call it 10 hours a day.
Now the Nationwide Best Selling Home Standby Generator–Better fuel economy–More power than other generators–Free Shipping 5-Year Warranty

    i checked on some numbers.
it looks like 3 gallons per hour is a nice average x 10 hours per day... shoot... that is nothing cause you got a big ole 1000 gallon tank. and it is chock full of fuel... time to be a little prideful at your prepping!! right?

no electricity from the grid, and you and yours are set!! yahoo..

then the gen starts sputtering and the little wife, comes running out to the barn. "honey, i've got that chicken in the oven, and the lights went out... the stove shut down!! and the dryer still has wet clothes in it! your gotta fix all that right away." and all this happens before summer 2023 is over! the numbers show 1000 divided by 30 = 33..

    whatcha gonna do?

    solar?
    get more fuel tanks?
move to the mountains where it is cooler!
you called the propane dealers in town and only 1 had some fuel, but his trucks don't work. (actually, they were stolen) if you bring your tank from the grill he'll fill that for $100. or 1 silver dollar.

Ouch! For all of us who run fossil fuel generators, the scenario is basically the same. Am I going to invest $50k in a solar system that will run the whole house? Nope! I'll sweat in the 100o FL temps once we run out of fuel because we can't afford $50k. I may buy a small solar generator for keeping batteries (think battery-operated fans) laptops, and phones charged. While we still have fuel, I'll do a boatload of canning and dehydrating to unload the freezer while minimizing electric usage inside the house. I have the electric pressure canner plus a 23-qt. Presto stovetop canner and a good supply of canning jars. We can use the gas grill for meal prep. I'll fill up all the water containers available and set them in the garage. Once we're off the non-operational grid, we're on our own. I guess we can pray for cooler weather! Is this best case scenario? No, it's reality. I still have 2 empty 2-gallon gas cans in the garden shed and a 5-gallon empty gas can by the tool shed. They can go with me next time out. I need to plan on refilling gas cans every 2 weeks.

a relative just moved from new mexico -hot- to panhandle of northern idaho. (i don't know what folks call that piece of land that sticks up towards canada in idaho)
they are making changes to the property and commented that the 90+ degree heat caused the new concrete to dry real fast...

i thought they would have it cooler up there in the hills near canada!! i was wrong.

side note... real estate prices are sky rocketing in northern idaho... folks from west coast moving there to get away from the craziness of california, oregon and washington.
locals don't care for the new folks because they frequently bring their liberal ideas with them..

I was in Bonner Falls, which is almost as far north as it gets in ID. The Bitterroot Range runs up the east side of ID but I don't know if it goes all the way to the border. It's beautiful country but gardening there is a real challenge: short growing season and unpredictable weather. Maybe they are having second thoughts about the move? That's ok. Give it a couple of months!

I think every state's going to need one soon! Better yet, build a wall around DC with one opening to bus certain people there.

Heat warnings daily for the last couple weeks here. "Real Feel" in the 110-115 and yeah it does feel like that. Outside for a few hours daily here and there working on that house near the range. Sweat just pours off of you. I usually keep two t shirts there, one wearing, one hanging on a ladder in the sun drying out. Then swap them every so often. Gatorades, water by the ton and it still leaves you tired as all get out.

At the gym they never run the air. 30+ people doing combatives in Gis. Guys puking every night...
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"
