  • Storing sugar???

Hey guys, I remember reading somewhere here that you do NOT put in an O2 absorber when storing sugar in mylar (BTW what mm mylar do I buy again?). So searching the web all I could find is one guy that uses O2 AND CO2 absorbers in everything he stores. But I am pretty sure somebody here said the O2 absorbers have a chemical reaction with the sugar?

Also, for humidity sensitive stuff, like sugar, do you guys put those moisture absorbers in the mylar bags??

Finally found a link to buy from LDS online:

Ordered one case each of beans, rice, oats, and hard red wheat. :)

I store sugar in mylar inside of plastic pails, using o2 absorbers will just make it get hard, I don't use moisture absorbers either, the sugar has a few lumps in it but breaks up easy.

Storing sugar is in my plan. When making stuff like home made wine, bread, hams etc. you will need a supply of sugar.

Instead of buying the small stuff from LDS, you might try: Where I am going to buy mylar bags and O2 absorbers from

OK now I am confused, Wendy Mae's is $84 for the same thing I bought at LDS for $28, and LDS does NOT charge for shipping (1 case of Red Wheat: six #10cans)

So confused why I would buy from Wendy Mae's? Is there a larger bulk discount at Wendy Mae's? As I can only find the single cases of six #10 cans there as well...

Wendy Mae = Frugal Squirrels grey squirrel extraordinare :)

Like anything, folks shop around for best prices. Just be sure what you are getting. I've never purchased from the LDS store online but will try them out one of these days.

Sugar and salt in mylar, no O2 absorbers, just have what Protus said...Hammer. A few lumps will be okay.

I appologize for the confusion. I was refering to buying 5 gallon mylar bags and 2000cc O2 absorbers.
