I've got two folding bikes very similar to this one, but unsure of the brand. Mine seems to fold up the same way, but mine are yellow. Mine are older, probably 15 years old and have been ridden many times. Like anything else, you need to tweak things here and there. The handlebars are supposed to "lock" up, but mine have unlocked when riding which makes for an interesting time. A couple years ago I took to the bike shop to get one of them "tuned up". Should have known something was up when the mechanic said "wow, what's that"? They replaced the tires, and cleaned it up (and probably rode it a bit) all for $100, so getting one new for $120 is prob not a bad deal. They are little though.

Cheaper then dirt a several years back were selling Sweedish? military folding mountain bikes and one of the guys at the shop purchased one. This was a bit larger then the ones shown in photo here. I believe the tire size was 24" and was knobbie mountain bike style. I wished I had purchased one then. Now even more so. It was a cool bike.
here found a photo of itClick image for larger version

Yeah, if you can find those Swedish ones, they were well made...

The others like in the link are meant for casual riding in a paved terrain... It will not do well with rough conditions. If you have the room, a cheap bike from Craigslist would be far better, but I assume you have a reason you want it to fold...

Agree with Rmpl. Mine is easy to ride on pavement or hard packed sand. Get into loose sand and the steering is difficult due to how handlebars are so elevated.

Thanks for the replies. Wish their was somewhere near here where I could see one in person. The folding part is obviously what interested me, but if it's only really good on pavement it's of limited use.

                LD3,
In my opinion the folding one you showed is essentially made for campers. They can carry this bike folded in a bag under their motor home or camper. Then they can pull it out when in a campground and ride around. Campgrounds nowadays usually have paved roads or hard packed roads. I carried mine in my Matrix for a while. Then decided on a different route home for a get home scenario. The bike wouldn't work for what I have planned.

If your thinking of "off-road" stuff, I would look for a different kind of transportation. If you still want this kind, let me know as I have two and we can make a trade.

Lowdown3- I have 4 folding bikes at the shop right now. Brand is Dahon. They are small next to the ten speeds. I think it would be something you really need to see and touch.
