  • gas mileage?? what are you getting.

i went to the other end of the state this weekend. me and a passenger and our luggage in the truck
    94 chev 5.3 3.73 low mileage, ext cab 4wd
the campers here from ga. and fla. have seen this truck.
i wasn't working on low mpg, but noticed that i got better than usual on the way to destination.
about 17.5 2/3 interstate and 1/3 4 lane roads. driving with the rest of the speeders on the interstate.

today, reversing the trip. (some of it downhill!) just me and my luggage.
i was in no hurry, and held interstate speed to 62 with the cruise and 56 on the 4 lane. just me... and my weekend luggage. i got 22 mpg avg per the truck computer... when i've checked the computer against actual it is a couple of
10ths' higher than what i calculate.
    22 !!
never done that before... but i haven't ridden the interstates much at 62mph either.. traffic was light.

i was curious if i could go to my destination and return on one tank of gas... never had before... but i never 'tried" before either. now i know that in good circumstances, and no traffic backups, that i could do it.. part of this is wodering if i could go get my associate and return on one tank if we had a disaster.. i took a perimeter road around our state capitol city. in a disaster, that road would be a logjam.. but...

fuel may be a factor... it was stored fuel. unleaded regular with no ethanol... mostly 6-10 months old. and
    treated with pri g!

    tell us your mpg story.

20-24mpg if i do my part....youve seen my truck so its the 2wd version of yours cept mine has 86k on it. traffic is where it eats it. going from 65 to 55 then 65 again due to stupid people really eats the petrol up. if i can hold a steady avg of 70mph ill hold close to that 24mpg side.

I have a daily commute of 80 miles. 50+ on 2 lane state hwy and the rest on interstate.

        2000 Chevy Lumina 160K+ miles

In moderate temps I get about 28-29 mpg...when its colder I get about 26 mpg.

Used to get about 26 @ 55mph and 22 @ 70....but a touch over 29 in 4 lo. Still waiting on new engine to break in (about 70 mi on it). So far, it looks like I should be getting a bit better than the tired engine.

I'm convinced if your gonna move to the country and eat a lot of peaches (remember that song?), then at least one of your vehicles has to be a high MPG vehicle. Gas ate us up with the Jeep but it was paid off and we didn't have the cash for year to replace it. We saved a little bit here and there till we got a small import. At 35-37 MPG it takes me around to business meetings, classes, etc. and is cheap on gas.

A lot of folks thought the $3. and then even $4. gas was a fluke, a short term deal. My one brother even told me that he knew gas would go back to $1. a gallon. I saw the writing on the wall. Right before we purchased it, gas had hit $4. briefly. Running the numbers on how much I drive, I realized it could have even justified a $250. range car payment and slightly saved on gas. In other words, the savings of basically double MPG could have went towards a $250. car payment. Thankfully we kept saving while we kept nursing the other vehicle along until we had the funds to go in and pay cash.

Our 4 wheel cages suck gas, but our commutes are short. Moutaineer (2000)...15 city 22 country...Dodge (2006) 18 city 27 country. Truck (1 ton)...8 city 10-12 highway (towing 12k trailer). Now my two-wheel (Harley)...35 city 54 country. That's what I use during the summer. All paid for except the truck.

When you haul an RV trailer and kayaks, you pay the price at the pump and for a truck worthy of the task... But it can also haul a tractor on a flat bed if needed, or a cattle trailer... So it has usefulness. My Toyota Tundra with I-Force V8 gets 15 city and 19 or so highway. Towing the trailer it drops to about 12 on flat ground, less when in the mountains...

Our economy cruiser for fun trips to and from is my wife's Toyota Corolla which gets 30 something MPG...

I need 4 more years of decent economy, no collapse, to have the 0% APR Toyota Tundra paid off... We'll see if we make it that long.

I may end up getting a higher MPG car, it all depends on how soon I can work 4 -10 hour days and how soon I can do 1 of those days from my home office. The new job is about double the mileage but if I can cut the number of days in the office down to 3 days a week I will only drive 50 miles more per week than I do now.
