  • spare gasoline

At the Gainesville show today, I heard a question concerning fuel (gasoline) storage.
Going into Y2K, I purchased some Coleman fuel for my Coleman stove...several gallon cans. One day in 08, I was cutting the grass and ran out of fuel. Knowing that Coleman fuel is just premium gas with the stink taken out and stabilizer, i decided to use some of my 9-year old fuel for a test. My lawnmower is really picky about fuel, so I was cautiously optimistic. It worked just fine. I know that gas degrades over time, but this stuff worked just fine. Of course now, Coleman fuel is 8+ dollars per gallon.

I was just wondering if anyone else had this success or failure.

One of the things you have to remember is that Coleman fuel does not have ethanol in it. New gas breaks down a lot faster than older gas. That said I can say that I have a camper with a generator and a 40 gallon gas tank/fuelling station in it. I've let the gas sit in it (Pri-G treated every 6 month) for two years. The generator started fine and the gas remained viable. I can't speak from experience for anything longer.

Thanks for that info. I'm glad to hear that your genset works good with treated gas. There is a gas station near my BOL that advertises "NO ETHANOL." I think I'll get some for my home generator and treat it with Pri-G as well. Got some at the Gainesville show on Saturday :o

Should've introduced yourself....be good to put a face to the name

I use Pri-G in just about everything and Lowdowns' prices on Pri-G and Pri-D were about $6 or $7 less than you can get it locally. If I wasn't already stocked up on both I'd have bought some...instead got a first-aid kit and some Isreali dressings.
