  • Stocking up on spare parts and chemicals

Ordered 2 oil, 2 air, and 4 fuel filters for my Cummins diesel. I need to do the same for my Kubota.

    My list to buy:
6 gallons of diesel oil, truck and tractor
    brake fluid
    trans fluid for truck
    HST oil for the tractor
    gear oil
power steering fluid, ATF will work in a pinch
Stanadyne makes a really good additive for diesel fuel
    Extra belts, one for each
    Slime for the tires
    wiper blades
    extra bulbs

I don't figure there will be a lot of joy riding, or even commuting back and forth to work so stocking up on vehicle parts might not be a priority and the money may have been better spent on the tractor. I also have a powerstroke F350 but I plan on tripping it. It is just too fragile when compared to the Dodge. I also wish I would have purchased more fuel filters. I imagine the quality of obtainable fuels will be suspect.

BTW, I bought everything from rockauto.com. I saved over $5 each on the WIX fuel filters compared to O'Reillys, and the oil filters were $3 cheaper. I really love mail order.

What are you guys putting up maintenance wise?

For the ARs I have a parts kit with springs, pins, firing pins etc.
The Glocks I have 2 parts update kits they put out many years ago and springs
The Generator oil, plug and filter, fuel
The Vehicles oil, brake fluid, trans fluids, power steering fluid, wiper blades (learned this from the Blakan region when i served there), tire repair stuff, belts, fuel.
Riding Mower and small trailor -oil, filter, tire repair (I can find many uses for this other than mowing)
Chainsaw I need another bar and chain still if i ever get it where it consistantly runs, I think chainsaw means "wont run" in a foreign language somewhere
I have a small welder with extra supplies to fix breakages
I would like to stock 2 extra batteries, more fuel and more oil when I can. I'm almost afraid to run alot of this stuff if we do collapse because of what it will draw in. I keep a nuts n bolts bin, tools of all kinds, electrical testers, lightweight oil for things like hydraulic jacks, WD40, spare bulbs/lights.
I always have bailing wire LOL

Brake Cleaner and Mineral Spirits are good things to have. Also, grease.
When I used to run an auto shop, I kept most of the fluids and such on the regular and transferred that stash to the house.

Still have gallons of Transmission, Brake, Power steering fluid.
Need more oil, some spark plugs (all cars use NGK) (also have 3 new coil packs), lug nuts, a couple good chains, belts, etc

Still have some Brakes for my 3rd truck, the Passport (remove the first P please) because its been sitting for a few months.

All of my vehicles are over 200k miles but we have 3 bicycles and a lawnmower to drive to the promised land.

Belts and plugs are must haves. I always save the old belts off vehicals when I change them and wire them in the firewall off that vehical. That old cracked belt is worth its weight in gold when it is with you when you need it. Everytime when I buy the new one I right on the cardboard tab what it is for and when I installed so if I do need to get one have them all in one place.
Also oil can be filtered and reused several times by filtering through insulation a couple times gets all the black crude out. Not the best but better than nothing in a pinch. I currently use the synthetic in my vehicals then when change I filter it and run it through tractor, lawn mower, and tillers. The stuff that is in a dusty dirty enviroment that needs to be changed frequently anyway. then after that it becomes chainsaw bar oil.
I like to buy alot of fluids in 2 1/2 gallon containers and date them when on sale.
I also have a couple of the adjustable belts as storage item so should be able to make work on items if need be. I love slime as well and I have my own tire machine to patch inside and that slime is a mess to work with but it avoids so many little problems with leaks...

Alternator, starter and a selection of fuses. A couple of rolls of 14g 12g and 10g wire butt connectors and spade male and female a few rolls of good electrical tape not the bulk china packs...A multi meter and someone teach you how to use it...You will be suprised at how you can bypass a lot of systems and go around problem areas to get the vehicle moving again with just these few items. It may not be fast or pretty but it sho beats walkin!

PerryJeff Great tip. I was saving old belts but never thought of tie wrapping one under the hood. And Grand...thanks for the tip on windshield wipers... didn't ever think of them.

Dang Matt & Bill...almost forgot what I was going to say LOL

Peak Global antifreeze works with all other types, so you can consolidate there.

Also, many newer vehicles require certain gaskets to replace the plugs, wires or coils...usually the upper intake plenum gasket(s)...make sure you have all of the parts you need to accomplish the task at hand, lest you find yourself in a worse situation than you were originally.

You can also buy that gasket kit stuff and make your own. Maybe a few sheets of that would be a good idearrrrr
