Ran/yogged (it's a soft "j" LOL) on the treadmill set on highest incline with the pack for the 2 mile, mostly 6 mph which seems slow but with a 30 lb. pack and a high incline isn't that slow. Came in at a decent time but was whooped at the end of it.

Did some land nav here, hardly any contour lines here but I worked what I could with terrain association, shot some azimuths and followed them to within a few yards of each way point. Going to get out and do some more in a day or so.

Probably will run/"yog" again today with the pack and run the shooting drills again.

IMHO, in order to improve the body/mind, one must adapt. In order to force the body/mind to adapt, there must be some sort of stress to push your body/mind beyond what is comfortable into that discomfort or even painful zone. Once there your body/mind starts its adaptation process, usually by building more muscle and your mental toughness improves too.

Running a mile at 70degs seems easy after getting used to doing it at 90degs. But try running at 90degs when you are used to doing it at 70degs and it sucks.

Treadmill set on highest incline, running at that highest incline the entire time (cheap treadmill, once incline is set it's a PITB to change) with the 30 lb. pack it was just over 24 minutes for the 2 miles. The incline is murder.... Pace went from 4.2 mph at slowest to 6.2mph slow jog but then again- uphill and with the darn pack.

The course up there isn't all uphill, so I'm hoping I can haul butt down hills and on flats and be o.k. I know that first hill after the hard left hand turn going up to the wooded ranges has to be about a 30% grade for about 200 yards. If I can average 4mph up that, I'll be happy as a clam.

I think the up's and down's will kind of even out over there. At least you will get some slight breaks going down. Last time I think I did the mile down in about 7 min. It was the going back up to finish that really sucked. Now hopefully this TS doesn't interrupt things to much.

2:30pm it was about 97 degrees, I huffed and puffed and made it in at just over 20 minutes with an intermittent 6 mph jog combined with a little 5mph hand flapping and pushing 4mph hard up hills. It wrecked me. I went right into the shooting drills within a few minutes. It felt like the first one totally sucked, but I only dropped 3 (12 allowed)

I broke down and cleaned my AK, figured it was that time of year and it's been probably 4,000 rounds ;) I'll down one or two more rotations of the shooting drill tomorrow to blow the oil out and make sure everything is functioning fine.

20:15 again yesterday afternoon, roughly 98 degrees and supposedly just 58% humidity. Did the shooting drill a couple times to blow any residual cleaning fluid out of the AK. I'm hoping for some downhill inertia ;) on the run up in WV! Will know soon enough.

19:45 this afternoon about 4pm for the 2 miles with 30 lb. pack.

It would have to be a darn near constant jog to get under the 19 min.

Hopefully in lesser temps in more shade.... :)

                Will know soon

2nd out of 14 on the 2 mile run with 30 lb. pack over Death Mountain. Got beat by a gazelle ;) Did beat him on the shooting drill though.

A hill you had to do twice was just plain insane, no way to even walk fast up that hill. Ihad to play mind games- "I'll take a break at that tree" then get to the tree and use it to push off and keep moving without stopping. Mid way up the approx 400 yards on that hill, just stopped looking up towards hill and watched the rocks. Came in 2nd at 24:35

Spent now, but worth the training effort.

What a lovely lovely day!!! LOL

                    Congrats

Goal orientation... I need to get off my but and do more. Its great to see how others train, etc. I'm finding out the older I get the more I need to "Get back in shape" because I hurt longer and take much longer for recovery afterwards. My cardio stinks and I know I have to fix that.
                    Once again congrats

Yup Congrats. I was milling around with trying to see what my times were with Ruck but will hold off a Tad longer. Been trying to do fighting load only weights right now. So far not shabby but could be way better.

                      Again awesome job...!!!!
Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

Well I got Vanguard cause of the PT time, made Rifleman also but I totally messed up the land nav course first go around and that threw me out of the running for any placement. Did get a chance to do the nav course again and passed it 2nd go around.

A lot of people had to re-do the shooting test, some of the manipulation drills also.

Those damn squiggly lines really screwed me up. I UNDER shot the distance, then tried to use terrain association but not reading the squigglies well, I thought I was in the right place. Searching around too long for the marker I totally blew my time limit. Almost did the same on the 2nd run, as two valleys came together in a thumb (looks like a thumb on the countour lines to me). I combed the thumb thoroughly then continued to move forward only to realize the next terrain feature was kind of like a "thumb"also- and voila the marker "magically" appeared. I was down to about 15 minutes left so I went to the 2 mile trail at that point and started running the hill again- I didn't want to screw it up the 2nd time.

Terrain features- so damn many, so hard to read which is which- no experience with them down this way. More contour lines on Max's property than on my whole map sectional for my area- no kidding.

Needless to say I need more work on terrain association and WILL be back up for land nav again.

The good news is I won't have to do that run again :)

Congrats to Dennis also who smoked it!!!

yeah. contour lines can suck if your not used to them. id prolly end up in ohio if i tried land nav up that way lol i tried using them to nav in canada few years back ..i was stumped lol
got a lil hilly section out in the place we hike. got to get a topo downloaded for it and try some stuff.

i did jog it this Am. tried for two miles. but since i miss calculated which hill was the 1 mile mark( did my map/course work before leaving) and used a gps to measure distance along with my watch(pacing my self),, but stopped short by one hill. . there was a fresh clear cut area. that wasnt on the sat image or there last time i hiked it. so it through me off ( was aiming for a hill top with a tree line(pine to scrub but the scrub was cleared)
so it was only 1.5 miles.
but 1st time ive run hills or what we consider hills lol.
it got the quads burning for sure along with making me actually breath hard(normally i dont) time was ok and on par with my normal 1+ mile times. ran with small hydro pack and hike staff to sim holding my rifle.
now that i know where i screwed up ill do the full two miles next run.

this thread and your updates have been a motivator imho!

                          congrats to both ya guys...!!!

Ya, just squeaked in with the final time adjustment (maassage in Max speak) on the run. Did pretty good in every thing else. Made it home with no problems and no injuries. I am beat though.
