Well normally i would post up gear failures in the gear section. but this is workout related.
Few months back i hurt my lower back kicking some forum owners butt doing mma:rolleyes:;) LOL(then i woke up LOL )
anyway, between that and some heavy lifting at work i really did a number on myself.
I was running 2.5 miles each AM. Being big doesnt help matters. So under advice from my Doc. I stopped working out for 2 weeks and havent run since( man i miss it) anyway. I have been doing some low impact stuff, weights etc.
Today since our gym is under some remodel work i had to hoof it on my own . I put on my normal work out clothing, and my shoes ( 3-4 months old now) and went for a brisk walk. I did just under 2 miles in 30 min. Nothing lighting fast but this was my 1st time back pounding pavement( i have walked a lot just not with a purpose or for that long) and 3 mph is about my avg pace( i have short legs LOL). All was well till around 1.5 miles. I felt like i had a rock in my shoe.

i got home and low and behold on my heel was a dang blister:mad:
Now these are shoes i was jogging in up till aound august. So i ASSumed i would have no issue.......

so why is this work out realted. Well know your gear (shtf related) LOL it is just a blister, but i have worn these shoes around town instead of my merrels ( i always think about walking home if need be) and to be honest....a blister sucks, let alone if shtf.

so now im off to work with a blister the size of a dime on the back of my heel...and i got a lot of walking to do........

You can never know when "something" comes out of left field and whacks you up side the head with REALITY...

Take care of that lower back, its the only one you have and you do not want chronic back pain... It changes everything... It will take you from BUG OUT to BUG IN real quick... :)

Shoes are a big deal, taking care of your feet is a must. I watched some video tapes once (a few years ago) that our host sold at one time in his store. In one part they stressed the need to take care of your feet, they are most peoples final option for transportation. The speaker suggested the use of two socks, one a thinner sock the wicked away moisture from the feet and helped prevent blisters. Buying Winter boots at least one size bigger to accommodate an extra pair of socks (which most hunter already know). Having in your pack moleskin to help minimize blisters when they start.

Blisters can turn very bad quickly in Badtimes, could sideline you for a long time if you don't take care of them properly, better to stop them before they start.

Protus, what you went through was normal, anytime you are coming back from a change in your norm (accident, health, or injury) it has been my experience that it does not take long for a person that is used to working with his hands to get blisters where he used to have calluses. The same goes for feet. But as you describe it was probably just a piece of sand or pebble that caused it.

      Heal quickly

"then I woke up" - he means from the triangle choke ;) LOL

We get about six months out of our running shoes and then they became outside work shoes or recreation shoes. That's what I've heard is about the best you should use them for running.

Go to Sonny's seminar, he'll have a stick or belt with him, your back will feel better afterwards. Seriously

Regardless of your activity, hurting feet are the worse possible pain I can imagine. When I was a young nurse, we wore white uniforms, hat and all. Also required were those white leather nursing shoes. I bought a new pair when I graduated and began my first job. Halfway through the shift, I was in agony. The day got worse and I was so distracted I did a poor job. The next day I wore my old scarred pair. I've never forgotten it. I learned to wear new shoes around the house for short periods to break them in. I was soooooooo happy when nurses were allowed to switch to white Nikis.

The pain and distraction of hurting feet can be dangerous if the SHTF.

My BOB, that I keep in my car, have an old broken in pair of Nikis, along with several pair of socks. I have a new pair for public wear.

A couple years ago we were going somewhere- nothing is close to our house- and I noticed the wife was wearing flip flops. It was summer and about 100 out. I said "what happens if the car breaks down now and we have to walk, your not gonna make it far in those on hot pavement." She stuck an old pair of running shoes in the trunk as soon as we got home.
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

about 47 yrs ago I played football in a league 18-26 yr olds, most of us had no eq or the money to buy it, I played a couple yrs from Sept til Xmas with sprained ankles and knees, my ankles swelled so i could hardly walk after every game, they always went down enough so i could play the following Sunday, this was after I'd come out of the Army and I've had very weak ankles since. About 6 yrs ago i got the idea that I was an indian or something and stopped wearing shoes for a couple yrs around the land, animals ect. Last yr I got bone spurs on both feet, heel and the ball of my feet, it took a couple yrs and buying all kind of ft gel inserts, cutting holes in them to relieve the pain when i walked but after about 18 months, I've finally got my feet back in shape, I'm not advertizing shoes, but now I wear nothing but carolina log walkers and walk about 5 miles every day. I would recommend that everyone don't go bare footed or even wear cheap shoes.

Ive been wearing merrels as daily wear even at work lately to help keep foot/back issues at bay.
My running shoes i swap out every 3-5 months. rotate them to around the home wear quick jaunt into the store etc.

I dont travel with running shoes on for reasons like LD pointed out on the flippy floppys...i dont wanna walk home in them lol.
