Why you need to know ground fighting

Well said dedicatedpro. I wonder if using the reward concept would encourage people more to practice like they did by giving out an advanced fighting tool. Maybe instructors could do the same by teaching more advanced moves to the ones that performed well in sparring matches. Instead of a belt you get taught something more advanced at the next class. Don't know how they teach in dojo's if they separate the belts and each are taught something different or what but an interesting idea."It's a trap!!!!" -- Admiral Ackbar

In general that is how it works, or is supposed to work IMO. Most training will build on the fundamentals.
IMO, doesn't do you much good to learn "dynamic movement" techniques if you haven't mastererd trigger control and are safe with your weapon. That sort of thing.
In the gym, I've seen people that had trained for 2-3 months but had missed fundamentals and therefore couldn't escape dominant positions well. That shouldn't be the case .www.homesteadingandsurvival.com

That's simple. Everyone wants a cookie. Seriously. Look at some of the more mainstream martial arts. They will have a dozen or so belts.
A "martial arts" center opened up in a town about an hour north of us in mid June. I remember seeing a thing in their paper in AUGUST showing several kids getting "promotions." That's less than 2 months for those math challenged types. 2 months to get a promotion????
Give them a cookie regularly and they keep coming back. Lots of pride and ego in this sort of thing.
Contrast that to BJJ with just 5 total belts, wherein it can take 10-15 years to get to black belt. Evidently Judo was similar until it came to America- only a small handful of belts. But they realized they needed more. Promotions = interest= people coming back and not giving up.
Personally I'd rather go someplace that does promote very slowly. Then at least you know you really did EARN what you got.Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

IF a guy gets ahold of you, don't pull away, move into him . Climb him like a tree, push your thumb completely into his eye socket between the orb and the temple, pinch his temple between your thumbnail and the rest of your fingernails.Originally posted by monkeybird View PostYear ago I was educated by a Security Expert hired by a major hospital to teach nurses getting off work at night, what to do if attacked. The advise I've never forgotten was to give them what they wanted, but to never, under any conditions, let the attacker force you to leave the area. The advise was to fight as hard as possible because anyone wanting to take you somewhere else was not really interested in robbing you. The comment was made that even if he shot you, you stood a better chance of rescue in a public area than in a remote location.
I decided then and there that this security expert made a whole lot of sense. I certainly would have difficulty fighting like you guys, but I would fight using every dirty trick I can think of.
Bite his nose off, chomp down on his flesh anywhere and take a chunk out. Be kicking as wildly and as strongly as you can.
Cram your thumb into his mouth such that the web of your hand pushes his cheek back, get a strong grip on his jawbone and swing like a monkey.
Make him want to get away from you.
Thee only thing you've got going for you is attitude and the only rule is devastate him.SamT

SamT I agree with it your post all except the part of putting your thumb into their mouth. There are some SERIOUS bad bacteria in the human mouth, and all he has to do is bite once and at minimum your getting an infection, at worse hes taking off your thumb, a major digit with its own seperate blood artery = alot of bleeding on your part. Also note, most people's teeth are ALOT harder than their thumb bones = digit loss!!!

Still being young I have been in a few scraps in my days, with young folks and once with a 40+ year old man that hit me hard as ****...but after 1 min he was out of breath and I got to put the hands on him before we got broke up. To be honest he whooped me good and taught me not to mess with grown *** men!!!! HAHAHAH.....anyways... Once I got into it with 2 black guys after a party in Atlanta. They tried to jump me as I was going out back to smoke, I guess they had nothing else better to do. Growing up my mom taught Ishin Ryu, Karasuto Nomechi Do, Wing Chun and Self Defense, so I learned a little bit. One of the bros was way bigger than me ( I am 6'3 and at the time 220)and had a tremendous reach. After blocking a few punches I kicked one dude in the upper middle section right below the stomach on his belt buckle area. He buckled for a few secs just giving me enough time to pull off my belt. I will tell all of you, a belt or a piece of rope is a GREAT self defense weapon. I used to practice this technique with my friends growing up. I used the belt to catch the guys wild *** hood punch and brought him in close where I busted his nose. He buckled as the other guy came at me. He tried to take me to the ground but I swung free and tripped him up, luckily. I then ran like hell to get help from some buddies that were coming out of the club and as a 6 man team we beat the hell out of them for even trying me. I was really close to going all Ed Norton on them and make em eat the curb but I do have a heart...maybe no in POST SHTF though.....
But I would have got pummeled if it wasnt for instinct, the 38 inch leather belt and luck, pure luck.
I have good friends in Jujitsu and they compete in contact and non contact, so its fun to spare with them. Over the last 2 years since marriage and the Al Bundy life I have got a lil out of shape but still maintain a good quick powerful punch and a strong kick. But I am 3 months away of my training to where I feel like I could join the local "dojo" just to spare and learn new techniques. I would love to take Aikido but 60 miles and $200 a month isnt worth it....You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?

WOW Wiseowl, your mom must have been one bad maffy jaffy!!
I envy you. All my mom taught me was sit down at the kitchen table and practice penmanship hours on end every night until my cursive was acceptable to her standards. UGGG still get picked on for having penmanship of a woman LOL oh, she did teach me how to cook and sew, so not all was a lost, hehe
My martial arts background was only during high school, unfortunately, and it was Shorei-Ryu, an Okinawan style of Karate.

Yeah she used to be one bad momma. She taught two counties sheriffs depts. self defense, which used to be hilarious watching her whip the wanna be bad *** cops....She also taught us Muay Thai and Kali ( I think that is what we took), its where you have 2 hard sticks and beat the crap out of each other. She was doing great until the late 90's when she started getting health issues and had to stop. So she just showed us somethings. I will be honest with you, in a street fight most training goes out the window because you are given so many different angles and scenarios that you cant get into the old "training mode". In all the scraps I have ever been in, I maybe used that type of training a couple of times. Its just hard to get into position with people throwing wild punches and stuff. My favorite move is when someone throws a hay maker and you block it and punch them on the inner bisep. It is hilarious watching someones arm just go numb. I wish I would have learned more grappling and take downs because thats what everyone is into these days. Once at a club me and some friends were in the parking lot about to leave when some of those Affliction shirt wearing MMA wannabes came up talking smack. The 2 guys I was with were puscatores and tried to defuse and run off. Seeing I was outnumbered and maybe out classed, I just sat my pistol on the roof of the car and watched the 3 MMA's start apologizing for disrespecting me. I know that is illegal as all get out, but it saved me a potential butt whoopinYou know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?

Those guys were top level grapplers....sorry but if you don't train and train hard, you won't stand a chance against guys at that level. Every guy who doesn't train thinks that eye gouges and groin pulls are his sole property. The reality is that these guys can poke your eyes as easily as you can poke theirs....but they can also slam you on the ground and control you.

It goes to show also that these "types" aren't just sitting around on their butts...Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Definitely, and more reason for us to be prepared. We shouldn't under-estimate our opponents. They are men, just like us, and training hard and developing skills gives them an advantage. Period.Originally posted by 1Admin View PostCan I get an amen? +1,000

I think I will double down on my Jiu-jitsu after seeing that video!

Wow. I'm currently working out via Crossfit to get into shape but seeing these guys fight... I'm going to have to find a good MMA school or something. I did Tae Kwon Do in college but these guys would tear me apart. In God we trust, everyone else bring data.
