    Lots of lessons here:
barriers, shot placement, communication, down is down, stay in the fight, etc, probably a class on cleaning out your shorts afterwards

Like I've said many times before when "IT" happens it happens and you will have only what you have, there is no "i'm gonna go get it" or "I can just..."

This could easily be converted to a road rage incident of whatever, it was obvious he was looking for trouble and anyone could have made the list while he was on his hunt. What would you do in this case say if you got stuck in traffic and this unfolded? Do you carry enough gun? Do you carry enough ammo? Do you know escape routes? Do think you could communicate with your spouse? Would the spouse be able to help?

OK, that is indeed a SHTF moment!!!! I would bet for most people, myself included, that the SHOCK of that threat appearing so quickly would cause me to lose proper sight picture discipline... That would make a good simulator training video...

Yep, I think I would need t clean myself after. If there was an after. Just shows that you need to be ready all of the time. I don't think my reaction time would be as good as the Officers.
My first thought was he doesn't want to live, no shelter seeking etc.
I've read on another board, "why did they keep shooting after he was down"? Some armchair *&*^%head. I say good job to the Officers.
Good point about the road rage.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

The correct answer is because he was still a viable threat still retaining his weapon and having displayed a rash disregard for life being non-compliant and verbally resistive even while absorbing rounds. He had no issue with getting into a firefight with vehicles full of people, kids etc right beside him and shooting in their direction as well.
The white car in the oncoming lane. Had you been that vehicle what would your reaction be? Would it be to sit and watch or to perform the James Rockford (yes I carbon dated myself) and get out of the kill zone? I would have called the PD from somewhere else as a witness but I woulda blown outta there ASAP.
People who try and sharpshoot like that have never been or done and fear those that have because their training and their confidence is lacking. We are fortunate to be able to watch and "what if" these situations so that we might be able work thru the OODA Loop quicker should we be in a bad situation.

leos never exited their cruiser either. they are VERY lucky. shows you also what can be done from with in. meaning you dont "need" to bail to engage every time.leo's fired 54 rounds iirc, and whack job soaked up10-19(most of those imho were when he went down)...but only a handful were removed from him.
suicide by cop..they are very lucky,,very lucky this dipstick didnt have his act together ....or else that dash cam would have been a lot harder to watch.

whats more messed up is the books the guy had on him..TR and saurez class books, old school paladin press deals and his "ak47" amd65 clone it seems..which may be why dude fumbled with his mag before he got outta the car trying to work a 40 rounder in there vs a 30 or 20..
also reading the chief of that depts. comments is mind exploding.. to para phrase
"if we would have had 45's it would have put nice holes in him...."
and how they are calling him a terrorist........and it starts...every ak/ar shooting will be deemed terrorist in nature......good thing he didnt escape amish ville would have been put on lock down...(i kid,,i kid)

            Question:

Re-watch the video... Notice the White Car in the back ground, What would you have done if you were driving that car?

Catch the ccw asking if they need help at the end :)

                    Matt,

Thanks for posting this, I like these real life "what if" type posts... (sucks for the people in the video but good food for thought for the rest of us)

Have you ever tried to pull your CCW from inside your car?
What about from the drivers seat? The dash/steering wheel/etc is in the way, and remember you don't want to sweep your leg in the process Practice it.
Remember you are buckled in and you will most likely want to leave the vehicle... so what do you do about your seat belt?

I CCW alot but had never practiced drawing and firing from the car until I saw a little thing on TV about it and they should some basic things to try and practice.

If you are drawing your firearm then things are going down hill fast and don't know what else is about to happen so might need to out of your seat belt too. So you may want to learn to draw while dealing with seat belt. It takes practice. I actually changed the way I take my seat belt off everytime I get out of my car to help me practice the most complex part.

Most drivers (here in the US with "left hand drive" cars) will unbuckle the seat belt with their right hand... which is also most likely the side the firearm is own. This creates a couple problems, "gun hand" is needed for 2 tasks and many times the belt and left arm get tangled with each other.

However if you slide the left arm under the "shoulder strap" of the belt to dis-connect the belt... you shooting hand remains free and you dont have worry about your left arm being tangled with belt. The habit of this hard to establish in my practice... Under "stress" I kept wanting to use the shooting hand for everything, so I changed my daily routine to make sure I unbuckle my seat belt the way I want to do it under stress. Again my thick skull did not take this well "old habits die hard"... I kept forgetting as I opened the door. So I would force myself to close the door back put buckle the belt back and do it again. It finally took after weeks to trying!

Fighting your way out of a car stinks and the smaller the worse. Had I been in the white car or in my case a chevy truck i woulda planted that bowtie thru his chest IF I was alone. If I have my wife or kids etc then they are the primary objective for me and I woulda left the area and maybe returned on foot just in case he did win but that's me and my job and mindset and contrary to what "survival" should be for most.
Also fighting your way out of the car

I have a pistol mounted in each vehicle. I also have my CHL, I carry as well but have a pistol mounted for easier and quicker access while seated in the vehicle. The only problem is you have to practice more but maybe that's a good thing. My 2 cents. Everybody's different.

Is not hard to "conceal" your "transition" from your belt to your car and back?

I need to clarify. I have a dedicated pistol for each vehicle. The pistols stay in the vehicles and then I have a pistol on me for carry. I like the 1911, although I'm not monotonous with it, but I keep a 'cheaper' (for a 1911) pistol in my vehicle in case they're stolen. None of my nicer carry guns are in my vehicles. I do though, expect the same reliablilty out of my vehicle guns'. I won't carry any gun or trust my life with it, rifle, shotty or pistol, revolver or semi auto, without running at least 300 rounds down it quick with no malfunctions. That's just me though.
