no formal class but wasn't no big deal to be looking at or even working on guns in the parking lot, even the staff joined in. You could carry a non lockback in the pocket and a lockback in the sheath on the belt. I remember passing around an old octogon barrel 30-30 with the guys and the principle and 3 teachers at lunch one day in admiration. In AG class it was expected to have a knife for work. I shot regularly the one year I went to a school with JROTC at the SCHOOL INDOOR RANGE on campus, 1903A1 trainers in 22 caliber. Most pickups at the school had guns in the gunrack openly displayed. Built a gunrack for woodshop.

I remember one of my friends bringing a machete to school to sharpen in the Ag shop. The only thoughts anyone had about it was they were glad they weren't going to be chopping brush.

If it was a pickup odds were it had a gun rack with a .22 in it and it was unlocked.

My ROTC instructor asked me to bring my AK to a Saturday class for a "foreign weapons" intro. He was a good guy but a little nutty.... Some years later he walked into our shop in Florida and didn't recognize me but starts buying survival supplies. I said to myself- "yep, called that one right!"
