OK, here's a little learning problem.

Your carrying a CCW, out in public (let's leave legal matters and endless pointless discussions of laws etc. out of it), your standing up. Someone takes over the place you are in. You need to get to your weapon as covertly as possible.

How do you do it? :) Be descriptive please- "draw" is not descriptive LOL.

    My 2 cents
During this event there will be a sudden movement then a freeze from everyone in the area. You will have to make your draw during movement only unless your just that good. The first sudden movement usually comes from vocal commands from the aggressor. As it sinks in, folks will then freeze trying to comprehend what is going on, denial etc. that first movement is best but usually not realistic for your presentation as you are in the same mode. There will be a lag while folks are frozen then usually a follow up command from the aggressor such as "give me the money" or "get on the ground". This will be the second movement timing from the folks and your second chance to draw. Alot of folks carry the kydex that requires a sudden straight pull, I switched from this because I found out in a restaurant once that you can not quietly draw and your movement not be noticed by folks around you. I was attempting to get my pistol in my hand and beat the odds of something I saw that was going south and was going to keep it at my side just under the counter out of a visual plain. I now carry a Blackhawk SERPA or a bikini type IWB holster for a smooth unnoticeable draw. I only recomend this if you can make clean shots without hitting anyone else. I find that difficult in crowds but taking a knee and angling the shot upwards helps clear them. I don't know if this is what you are looking for or not but thats my thoughts on it.

Like Matt said there will be that first few seconds of chaos. Use this time to turn gun side away from the criminal not making eye contact with him but keeping him or her in your peripheral and one quick smooth draw. neither of my everyday carry holsters make a noise. If the draw was noticed you could tell them your just getting your wallet out to give them your money but then you'll be making your shot directly.

If it's a single gunman I'd have a lot more options. You said standing up so best thing I could think of would be to turn my gun side away from the gunman and if possible use another person to shield my movement from view. Maybe back away into some cover if possible. If that's not possible best time to draw would probably be after he demands people to start handing over their wallets, purses, etc. I keep my cash on a money clip so that's easy to hand over or toss on the ground. Maybe best to just wait til after he picks up my cash and moves on to the next victims before drawing. Hard to elaborate depending on if he's patting people down, reaching in pockets etc. Or if there are multiple assailants. Best decision may be to let him have the cash and just go.

well 1st i would ro-shambo the guy,as he is crumpling up,i'd give him a kick in the back of the knee's, get back control and put him in a rear naked choke...if there is more than him, he is now my human shield. From where i can use his sidearm and my own to fend off the other attackers....

          of course i kid....sorta ;p

in the confusion,i'd step to cover or concealment( aka others in room, hey if they are all scrambling or diving to the floor-could be my chance)..i could draw while getting on the floor for one.

if i am able to get out,,,thats plan A.......plan B is draw when i can and take the dirtbag out.....

Been in this situation once, without my gun (just came from a stupid federal building-no guns allowed) at a Wendy's on the way home. Although Matt hit it pretty much on the head, the freeze in place was very evident. Me, it was more of a drop under the table for concealment (not cover as I am sure the cheap table wouldnt stop a .22). What saved the day was the stupid bad guy tried to rob Wendy's while there was a cop in the drive thru. The cashier was the hero here, she keyed the outdoor speaker and kept whispering "call the police, we are being robbed". Needless to say, the cop outside was at the door in a flash, and the restaurant surrounded in what seemed like seconds.

Thankfully, my no carry day there was a cop there when I needed him. Oh, and a very courageous and SMART drive thru teller. =)

Oh, as for the draw. I routinely practice sliding my gun out of its holster when I find myself in an empty restaurant (so nobody sees) just to practice unholstering while sitting in whatever crappy chair or booth I find myself in. I have recently changed over to a fanny pack carry (dumb name, nobody wears them on their fanny-should be hide under my middle aged gut bag-LOL). It has a built in CCW spot and works like a charm standing/sitting/lying down on your side.
