  • First Day of Deer Season in GA

    Bow season that is....

Did anyone get any hits today?

    Other states?

I chilled at the house, I have no bow and I think its still too hot. Going next weekend to scout from the stand.

My "hunting group" went this morning to Meriwheter co. and didnt even see a cricket....

1st of Oct for Bow Season start here
They are still very nocturnal here and water holes during the day are the best bet or late evening ambush on the trails to feeding grounds because by the time they get to the feeding grounds it will be to dark.

Finally got in the stand tonight. My buddy has 9 acres about 10 mins from me. Someone left a brand new 2 seater ladder stand out there from last year -thank you very much. We sat for about an hour and then got out the flashlights and scouted a 60 yard radius around us looking for rubs and tracks. Found plenty of tracks on the dry creek bed and the major intersections is about 45 yards from my muzzle. It was good just to be out there listening to woods and smelling nature.
Its nice that my buddy has a nice bow so I can just go out with him and scout until Oct 22 when the big boy comes out the storage.

I butcher everything at home (outside) and it's hard to enough to get everything going in fall weather down here. I can't imagine trying to get a deer cut up in 90 degree heat.

I usually wait till the weather is slightly cooler, hunt on our own land and usually just go out a couple times till I get one then that ties us over till late Spring/early summer when the bunnies are off from their winter break.
