Eating Bugs
Every time I turn on the T.V. some knucklehead is eating bugs whether it’s for a challenge, an idiot show full of “watch me” who’s mommies didn’t give them enough attention or a survivalist guru there they are. I’ve eaten some bugs and there is a reason they aren’t in the grocery store, they taste bad. Outside of that you must be very careful of the bugs you eat. One of the obvious reasons is some can make you sick from poison, bites, stings etc. You would think that would be a DUH but sadly it’s not.
Another thing is some carry parasites. Let’s take grasshoppers for example. Any survival guru out there especially on websites will tell you to eat grasshoppers because they have fat n protein. Grasshoppers have tapeworms along with some other parasites. You eat them raw and you run the risk. Now if you are in a short term situation where you are lost, crashed etc. then by all means eat them if you must but let the medical team know once you are found. Looking down in a month and seeing a 14inch tapeworm fall out, of your point of no return, is gonna freak you out otherwise.
Worms, well we all see folks eating worms on the dare and as hardcore survival training but where did they come from? Worms eat “soil” which means poo, animal decay, or whatever is lying in front of them as they travel. What is in the soil? Pesticides? The gas you spilled last week filling up the mower? The urine from the dog? The nearby swamp water full of Cryptosporidium? Oh I know it’s the dirt from the lateral lines! Getting my point? I really suggest at a minimum trying to wash them and squeezing the dirt/guts out of them.
Unless you are gonna die or pass out from weakness or go into shock from a medical condition like blood sugar levels dropping try and cook this stuff before eating it. There is nothing wrong with training but be careful and do your research don’t just assume that cause the guru on the tube did it all is well.
Video or it didn't happen :)

Knowledge is Power, Practiced Knowledge is Strength, Tested Knowledge is Confidence
I used to put the worms in water over night and let them purge out. Then if you fry them up they taste ok. Another problem with most bugs is that it takes more enegry to gather than you get in return. Unless it's ants or termites. Much better survival foods.
One of the worst things I ever ate was 1/2 of a big white wood grub, but it was a bet from a student. Tried to swallow it whole but it took about a quart of water to get it down.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?
