Thanks Matt. The Mrs. and the "Accountant" (her) nixed my hunting this year but I am trying to learn this stuff so next spring I can start with turkey season. One of my younger brothers is an avid hunter and wants to take me so bad.....damn licenses and money.......they hit a doe Sunday....and he said there are a ton of bucks out this year, or thats the word at least. You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?

same story we got in camp wiseowl. 5-6 good bucks taken during muzzle loading, and some young kids getting a 10 and 6 point the night before. We were running dogs. and came up with a spike buck a huge 9 pt, and 5 does.
I missed a large doe......1st day,1st deer and 1st time back in the woods hunting in almost 1.5 years.
As to cost...go see how much your state charges non residents.....,,,,i almost cried.Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

I got to do a little something different this year and in a different place.
I wasnt aware that when i packed my footlocker that I took Murphy. Muphy broke my scope so I had to borrow a rifle while i was there.
I have been to the range a ton in the last few months and day of bam, busted. 2 is one 1 is none
Layed him down at 350
Now I'm soaking the meat out and will trim it and pack it tommorow and sometime later maybe some other folks can help me taste testing some grilled backstrap with a little headcountry dry rub, mmmmm
The things that we use will fail at the worst times. Even the "Pros" stuff didnt all work.
Improvise, Adapt and Overcome
I put a ton of manhours into this between shooting, equip checks, packing, running treadmill with a pack etc. I learned alot about not only these animals but the others of the area as well and also the plant life. I foraged prickly pear fruit and took a visual inventory while out and about especially on mud puddles and other water sources. If you think that you dont need to know where food/water is then look at the pic and think again. Long, long way to anything
At the end of the day, this is where it's at. Trophies are cool but the knowledge gained and the pure unscathed protein to feed the family is where it's at.

Nice looking. Good points on per planning and stuff breaking. Also nice to hear I'm not the only one who likes to play "what if" while I'm out and about. Like what if I fell and needed to help myself for the next 24hr/48hrs etc. Nice looking hunk of meat. Congratulations.Survival question. What do I need most, right now?
