Thanks Matt! Good post. I've driven a million miles on plugged tires. As you said, always go for a patch, or a "boot" as soon as you can. When I was a kid, just about everybody I knew had several plugs in just all their tires! I still plug tires here in the boondocks because a trip to town to have a tubeless tire broke down is a waste of time. One thing I like to do when I put the tire back on after plugging is to put the plug on the ground so the weight of the vehicle will be pressing down on the plug for a while. Besides, that gives me a good excuse to go back in the house, drink something, and cool off for a while! :)

Good idea. I'll look for a kit.

I agree and keep a kit and a "slime" 12v pump in every vehicle, one thing to beware of is if you are running on 8 or 10 ply tires you will need heavy duty plugs as well as some muscle to ream the hole out it is a real treat.

I carry one of those old Bell Red Bicycle Foot pumps in the trunk of my (ahem wifes) car. I have had to plug tires in the past and if I cant get to a gas station I just foot pump it up. In a way I enjoy it because I turn it into a lil dance. But those pumps that use manpower are a MUST in the PAW or the Present..........we may not always have power

My kit consists of 2 pair of Dikes (sp?), needle nose pliers, a "huge" plug kit, extra valve stems. a valve stem extractor tool, fix a flat, and the Bell.... Also, I use the regular plugs but I still put the glue on em...from running an auto shop I learned how important tires and tire care really is. So many people are clueless about the 4 things that can get you to Point B or Kill You

I carry one of the best complete plug kits mfg. by powertank. or on E-bay http://compare.ebay.com/like/1505851...Types&var=sbar

I bought a Vi-air constantduty on board air system http://www.viaircorp.com/ for airing tires up, down, or fixing flats.

I also have a co2 tank. A 10 pounder for emergency filling of tires or opperating air tools in the field. Power Tank makes/sells them but you can make/ buy cheaper from a high pressure cylinder retailer, welding supply shop,. off road 4x4 suppliers and smittybilt sells a decent kit as well. http://www.smittybilt.com/product/index/84.htm
Power Tank is the ultimate on-board and mobile air system for performance, versatility, and reliability and your source for all air related accessories.

                        hope this helps someone.

Like WiseOwl, I carry the foot-powered bike pump. I have tried the electric pumps in the past and have never been happy.
