Okay, that is completely awesome out of the box thinking for everyday items. Never would have thought about something like that myself.

Everyone will be raiding the local Micky D's for their straws along with the ketchup packs and napkins now lol

That looks awesome! I wonder if there's a brand-o-straws that works better than the others. Those looked like Wendy's straws to me. 7-11 has a thick gauge straw too I think. I wonder how well his stainless knife sparks.

You could seal a few strike anywhere matches in a few of the straws too. Not with the tinder, but in its own straw. Would make a super compact fire starting kit.

It's amazing how a simple object like a soda straw sparks the imagination of some folks.

I was thinking longer straws might be useful for other things besides this. Like a single cup of coffee (as long as the grind is fine enough) as I typically take a single spoonful per cup. Add it into a French press and we're in business. It's just finding a way of getting it into the straw that's the problem.

BC headache powders would work as well wouldn't they? Bleach for contaminated water?

                The possibilities seem endless

Out of the BOX, yes! But I use that idea for something else....

I cut the straws 1 1/2 inches, seal the end, the same.

then I ~scoop~ up Golden Seal Root, from a good Herb store.

to seal the other end, I bend it over, first, then seal. I use these, in my first aid kits. If you have more than a minor cut, a small bleeder, Clean it first * then open the straw, and pour the Golden seal on, it will instantly cause congealing of the blood, even on small arteries.

The longest cut I have sealed the way, was on a chef, with no Medical Insurance. cut nearly to the bone, I cleaned the cut, used the Golden Seal, and the waited for all blood flow to stop.... then "dry" cleaned the area, so I could add on butterfly Bandages, OVER the Golden Seal. I finished it off with an aluminum Finger Splint, so he could not bend his finger reopening the cut.

His finger was covered with a ~finger cot~ during work. total healing in ten days, It could of, or ~should~ have had at least four, maybe five stitches.

                  * On reviewing that "emergency first aid", I reconsidered HOW to clean, for portability. This was done in his house, plenty of water.... What about NO water, or little water????

I realized that Generic Eye Drops, not designed for special needs like allergies, etc. is MOSTLY just a sterile saline solution, the thought came to me to keep a couple of cheaper brands Just For The Purpose of Flush Cleaning. A squirt of eye solution will ~hose out~ a cut, so you can see any debris, that is, any still left. It is easier on the patient to Flush it out, if you do not have Analgesics for pain control.

BTW, this was the first time I used it on a NON Family person. I have carried Golden Seal since 1977 for JUST this use!

                  Hope that helps some one!

You don't know me! LOL Dang it well maybe, it's going in the fire tin from my tourist bags and then will be added to all the rest. BTW my wife loved it too and talked about other possibilities.
I couldn't resist it's too good an idea!

u don't need it if you know enough to instead carry a "can candle", like the NuWick, as sold by Campmor, Inc. the wick is easy to light, with a Bic, flint and steel, or a magnifying glass. Then move the fire to the other wicks, and the can candle will quickly dry out soaking wet "fuzzsticks", that you have stacked in a "teepee" around and above the can candle.

I am thinking about sealing liquids this way, such as H2O2 or witch hazel for wounds or skin irritation, will experiment with this and let y'all know if it works.

That's what I like about this forum of "outside the box thinkers". Throw an idea out there and you get 10 new ideas/uses for it. And most of them are usually as inexpensive as they are innovative.
