  • hot weather-what keeps you cool.

What's a piece of kit that is your go to for hot weather or tips. Most of us are squared away...but it could help someone.

For me. The two things that I've noticed improvement in was undergarments and socks.
Yeah...har har. But seriously. Dry feet mean more comfort ...transfers to less fatigue.
I wear mostly synthetic jogging socks...dry super fast...pack.small (big plus if space is key) and add some support in their design (tight arches etc) .
Addias staycool compression shorts (boxer briefs) . Super fast dry times...breath well...cut down chaffing even when wet. Are light and pack small.

I used to only wear stuff like this on hikes or training. Now its daily wear because I work outside a lot and two.....its a long walk home so why be hampered. Ever try and walk sweaty and chaffed? Or blistered up due to poor sock /boot choice?:p

Boonie hat is an item that's a permanent chunk of kit in my cars..along with cheap small umbrellas. Suns a killer.

    That's just some things.
    Post up your recommendations ......
Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

Agreed with everything above we've spoken about this at length humidity temperature availability of water are key components of your health in a survival environment. you guys in the South you have more availability of groundwater then other places but you also suffer from an extremely high humidity rate so you don't benefit from evaporative cooling like those of us who live in lower humidity areas. In the desert I can use evaporation to aid cooling but the trade off is I have to carry more water as its just not as available. Cotton is not nearly the enemy for me as it is for other climates and specialty designed evaporative materials are standard kit with me. Shade and evaporation. Ooh and did I mention WATER

Around the homestead, doing work that doesn't require specific clothing, when it is BROILING, I go "Commando..." TMI, I know, but it was asked.

Synthetic basketball shorts (the shorter variety, the cheap ones, not the long, hoodlum style), cotton t-shirt or synthetic t-shirt (or no shirt at times), ankle socks, good sneakers, and a big sombrero palm frond hat with a sweat band...

This keeps air flow on the nethers cool and happy and sweat dries fast, cooling some, but it is still Hades front door...

Boony hat for me is too hot, not enough air flow, head overheats... I really LOVE those palm frond sombrero hats. Lets air flow but keeps sun out.

The most important thing: a big mason jar with ICE and a Simply Lemonade & water mix! Multiple refills...

Also time jobs for when it is in the shade...
