  • gear failures- post em if ya got em'.

this thread is about gear you had that failed. this isnt to bash the kit but to give folks an idea of what works vs what doesnt.

for me its been several things but one failure gets a good story going each time.
Mag pouches- long ago as i made the transition from alice to molle, i purchased a condor/voodoo/ctd/made in china 3 cell mag pouch. A basic blackhawk copy(which prolly got copied from eagle) anyway. The molle attachments failed. The button snaps would not hold. I lost that pouch during some training and its been a laughing point ever since!
Newer stuff by the same company looks 40 times better. Back then that pouch ran 15-20$...dont know the cost today but 15$ 8 years ago would be like 30+ now. some zip ties fixed the problem and its still on my alice kit.

    camelbak- yip.
this is my most recent failure. ive had an omega military 3 liter bladder for a long time. gets a ton of use. yesterday on a 4 hour day hike i noticed the bottom of my mule was wet. this bladder has the quick connect points. it seems once pressure is put on that connection point it will drip. since the mule is a small pack ifit gets tight it would leak. its going to get regulated to carrier duty only and not ride in a pack anymore

campgaz stove- older mini stove worked great but the piezo lighter busted..then the housing around the flame control busted. stove works but is set aside for hurricane duty as finding fuel(iso-butane) canisters is hard unless via online.

night eyez 3 led light- this was a small od water proof light that has a clip on it(clamp) i used it for years as a light on my vest/pack for reading maps etc. 1st the clamp broke..then month or more later brand new batteries blew up in it..rendering it doa. this led light was 10 years old- so not a real failure but it did break! lol

ORC industries jacket( this is the non goretex rain gear- dwr backed/urethane backed fabric(( looks like goretex but isnt)..urethane started peeling,,getting sticky right after a good rain storm use. ivetreated it,,but its not a go to, makes agreat wind breaker..light rainjacket and its camo so it rides in the truck kit.

theres a start ill add more later .

what stuff had you guys have thats failed either thru long term use or the day you bought it?
Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

The marpat one...they are made good but huge once you add the top lid...assault pack etc. I think the run mid 100+$ for pack...lid and hip belt.
They are a 60 or 70 liter Ruck iirc...basically a large civilian Ruck.

Condor Soft rifle cases. I have 5 of them 3 are now useless. The zippers separated and the metal pulls literally dissintegrated (metal crumbled into many pieces ).

Stream light flashlights (various styles) every one I have purchased failed in 3-6 months. Will not spend any more money on them even with warranty, too much of a hassle sending back/waiting for a return. I'll stick with what works each and every time.

Pro Mag (USA brand from CTD) every one failed miserably... in 9mm 13 and 15 round (high Power), AR-15 20s &30s, These were new in wrap out of speck, wont fit mag wells. Would not hold ammo...load mag and they would "rainbow" out before you could get mag to magwell. FTF due to followers sticking in out of spec mag body. This was early in my gun stuff life (80s& 90s) spensive lesson...
