  • to velcro or not

I know..once rounds go out...sound issues kinda go out the window.
but in a non urban environment is there benefits to not having Velcro on your may pouches vs but Joe's bungees?
I'm used to taping stuff down etc and old school thought of hearing that rrrrrrrrrrrip can give you away..
Most of what's got me over thinking this stuff is my new location.. ranges are close and besides roads and power lines /trails its tight in jungle more or less...id say sub 120 yards...with 30-50 being the avg (outside of the roads etc) .
I've got both styles (buckle /bungee and Velcro) so I can change up as needed but what's everybodys else's opinions.....

I really like Hawkeyes UW Gear Swampfox chest rig. Quiet, quick, and the mags are protected from stuff. I've loaded it up, taken it off and shook it upside down and none of the mags fell out. When I go prone, the mags stay clean and the tabs are very easy to open once you've done it a couple times.

We are still running those BCS chest rigs for the AK. They are open top with the bungees and I've never lost a mag.

It fits nicely over a Banshee plate carrier also if you want ballistic protection.

I just really like this damn rig....

Well according to internet super preppers I need to carry 12.... :p

I carry 6 total (1 in rifle) in my main rig I've used forever...but I'm trying to go the route of 4 Max on the rig .
I'm just playing scenarios out in my head...and when I was checking kits etc ...I tore open a pouch with Velcro and since I had the house to myself (aka quite) I was like "dang that was noisy)"...so the old Velcro vs bungee /snaps /buckles debate popped into my melon.
Figure just to see what folks thought.

Four on the rig, one in the rifle, one or two on the battle belt. If you think you'll need more, have a 2-4 more in the mule you carry. If you need more then that, well you may need to backpedal. Just my two pennies

One reason I don't like hook and loop (velcro) other then said noise, is that in a dry environment small twigs dead grass and scrub get caught in it and it looses it gripping ability when it cakes up with said stuff. I never had it happen to me in the rain but a couple of my friends say if you are in water (read bodys of water: sea,lake,river...) The hook and loop looses its gippyness as well. I never went swimming with my gear on so I don't know this first hand.
I have a combo of pouches myself and am currently using Blue Force gear 10 speed pouches. Not sure how I like them 100% yet.

Well you see there was this guy that I did about 3 favors for that told me numerous times he was going to reciprocate and hook me up with some gear that I offered to do a review of after using it. But lo and behold nothing ever surfaced numerous times.....

some older stuff i have is like that water/crud keeps them from holding well. but lotta hook and loop is different.cheap condor vs (insert name brand uber gear of choice)
the hsgi ummps i use are a mix ..hook loop on the flaps with a buckle and a bungee on the side that cinches around the mags......
