  • gear check and fun times.

Now..i always laugh atthe "check your guns.." check your gear" type threads where folks post up stories of rusty bores and leaky mre's and dry rotted bladders(lack of use).
So..this weekend im on call. So what to do..Hmm.
Lets do dry fire runs through the house since im alone,,and the cats can be the bad zombie biker guys.

Every few months i pull out my junk(bob, ghb, fighting gear) and do a check,,test fit etc.
I bust out the trusty 47'..unload 4 mags ,,set them aside. I grab my "bump in the dark" kit.
This is just a 3 cell chicom rig. its a 3 cell. in goes the unloaded mags. loaded mags go in a bag and i zip it up.
I check the gear in the rig. izzy dressing- check,,good still. check the CAT..yip good..check other FAK stuff,,yip good. Pull out a older night eyes LED flash light, This kind is Od and black with a swivel clip. water proof etc. decent light for a rig or pack and allows me to have a led to use in apinch. go to yank it out..snap. the gator clip break WTF!..oh well. no biggie.
I double check mags again to be 100% they are unloaded. yip.
    set rig aside.

I then drag out my super huge deployment bag from london bridge..This bags holds 90% of my shtf gear.
i pullout my belt kit (cpf 90 belt moded to hold a few pouches and my drop leg. Adjust drop leg for a not so snug fit - i started running again so my legs are getting bigger- cough trying to lose weight lol)
    ok all checks out.
I remove my main rig. i had two but traded one off. This is my main rig..so same deal. start checking all the pockets,,zippers etc.
h20 bladder looks a lil green. off o the sink with bleach etc to clean,,rinse and dry.
cliff bars,,g2g,,but older...ill swap them next test.
Now this is where i got annoyed. I have this one [piece of gear a really cool dude here gave me.
i wear it on my rig so others with nods can see me.....i test it each time. I open,,check batts,,close..test. nothing.
Ok..batts are 6-9 months old. but they are high end good ones . I swap out with better ones/new. nothing. Ok..never had it under h20 ,nothing. All i can think of is somehow even though it was in the off position it got left one. musta burnt the lamp(though it looks fine). i remove batts. and stash it back in a bag for later review. kinda p/io'd about it. now i gotta run around in the dark doing the :signal " from team america so folks dont think im a zombie ;p LOL

so put my 3 cell on and my belt and start doing dry fire..reloads..scaring the cats ,,,while my dog looks at me funny.

i check my gear pretty frequently ..i just tested the strobe and other items at the 1st of the year.

i hate electronics for similar reasons ive had frs/grms radios just stop holding charges..2m ht's do the same etc...prolly the reason i still run iron sights.....:p

oh well guys go check your junk....
off to buy more cr123's lol
Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

I found this weekend two headlamps in various bags that had Energizer AA & AAA battery leakage... WTH! How can anyone "have something ready" in an emergency if the stupid batteries FAIL, leaving that NEEDED device unworkable, or worse, damaged?

Luckily I was able to use vinegar to get the battery crusties out and no damage to the contacts... In many items I store the batteries SEPERATELY with the item, but some stuff just NEEDS TO WORK and be ready to work when you need it...

"Oh, what is a survivalist to do?," as I put the back of my palm to my forehead and feign a faint...
