You usually have to act quick cause their deals are limited to the first 1000 or so. I didn't even read the description and ordered one right away. I was thinking it would be a small thin one but that's actually what I wanted to put on my keychain. Took about 2 weeks to arrive and I was amazed that this thing is over 4 1/4 in long and 5/16in thick. Real sturdy. There's always a catch and the catch was the metal striker with it is painted. Yep had to grind the paint off to get it to spark. Another thing is the black coating on the rod (like all the other ones I've had) takes a few strikes to wear off before it sparks.

Sg had these for a 3 pack for 15$ for a while. Buddy of mine got them after i told him and he saw my smaller one work. They are 3 times the size of my small one and well worth the price imho.

Even at the regular price that is still a great deal. I bought a striker/Mg combo from CampingSurvival for $6 + S & H and it isn't half that size. Even the swedish steel is smaller and more expensive. Great find!! Thanks for sharing with the rest of us.

when you get them, ck them out good, i bought a bunch of steels that were cheap and they wouldn't put out a spark with a grinding wheel after the outer coating was off them.

I was really surprised at what I got for the money. It sparks great after you scrap off the black coating. The stupid painted striker I threw away.

Got mine in today and as stated gottta remove the coating and trashed the steel. I however about wore myself out trying to start a fire with one! That is not a hot spark at all. I'm up for suggestions. I used dry pine needles and dryer lint.

It's hard to start a fire with these unless you've got some really really ignitable tinder. Try some cotton balls (or dryer lint) coated with vasoline. One spark fire.

aaahhh I see said the blind man. I carry them cotton balls in vasoline in my pack in film canisters so out the door me and my daughter went and wooolla, fire on the first try. And I lost that particular one and into HER pack it went. Good thing I bought 2!

I was getting concerned with the reports above, but I am pleased to say that my five-pack arrived today. As per usual, gotta scrape off the black coating but all five sparked up without exceptional effort. Got flame with a cotton ball, with and without petroleum jelly. Also lit an alcohol stove with which I'd been tinkering. Thinking I got a bargain to share with the kids next time we practice fire skills together.

if your steel is any good, that dryer lint should have took off with a tiny spark.that dryer lint is so combustable that it's almost dangerous to have near a spark, dryers start a lot of house fires.

well thats what i thought, i used my sog flash knife. i've started fires with lint before just using spark
