  • MSR pocket rocket stove

Wife got this for me for our anniversary
Comes in a little carrying case. Very very light weight. All you do is take it out of the case, screw it onto the fuel can, turn on the fuel, light it and boom. You have stove.
I boiled a half a liter of water in what seemed like two and a half minutes.

Can't wait to use it on the trail.

It is so much easier than my Whisperlite and not as bulky. Also the first 30 seconds arent a scary fireball

I would recommend this to anyone who is a outdoorsman, add to your bug out bag or use it to make coffee in the office and look tacticool

Mine has served me well for hundreds of trail miles. Great piece of kit.

Do you only use the MSR Iso fuel or have you tried other fuels?

I saw the coleman cans for about $2 cheaper but wasnt sure.

Also, whats the life time of one of these cans?

As long as the attachment point is the same, all Isobutane fuel canisters will work. One thing to be aware of though, they don't work well in cold temps so if you're hiking in the winter, you can keep one inside your jacket to warm it up.

And they don't have a shelf life. No different than propane bottles in that respect.

yeah I came to post that. i used one for awhile but i switched off to a white gas. its cheaper and while the stove is heavier and more bulky works in any temp. the only time you'll run into a problem with the iso is during jan-feb. otherwise it will work great.

Sweet! I'm glad I found this post. I was holding one of these stoves in my hand just yesterday thinking about purchasing one. Comparing the two I wasn't sure but after seeing ya'lls coments I think I'm going to go with the pocket rocket.

A question though. Typically these little stoves are not safe to use indoors because of the fumes, is this one different and safe to use inside?

I know you aren't supposed to use them inside a tent, but I've risked shrink wrapping myself on a few rainy days to cook a meal. Never had a problem.

Same here. My climbing bud & I have used my MSR stove inside the closed fly with no prob. It just gets steamy and stuffy in there. My MSR tent breathes at the bottom of the fly though.
                Yeah… I like MSR stuff.

I used this stove in the low 20's in my tent last weekend. Made me a cup a coffee that was the best tasting cup I had ever had. Just because it was freezing and I was making it while I was still in the bag.....

I am curious, what are the pros and cons to this pocket rocket stove verses a 1lb propane bottle with a screw on stove? I have used the latter . Obviosly size and weight come to mind , what about durablilty and longevity.
