  • binoculars?

    i was at a fnra banquet and trying to win a pistol in a drawing.

    my number was chosen, and i had a choice of several weapons or a brunton epoch binoculars.
    i was about to choose one of the pistols and a trusted buddy quietly walked up and strongly whispered " take the brunton"

    i doubted any binoculars would be better to have than one of the pistols offerred.

    but i trust my buddy, so i chose the brunton epoch after much consideration.

    folks, i've got a couple of el cheapo binoculars. no comparison..
    i have no background or knowledge of binoculars.. but i can see butterflies clearly a wonderfully long way off.

    it never dawned on me that this would be possible.
    and i see a real possible benefit to having a quality set of binoculars or two.
    i'm not qualified to say these are better than other brands.
    they may even be the low end, but they are miles ahead of the 59 and 99 dollar units i've got.

    Bino's are good to have around. I know some folks that say it's redundant when you have a rifle with a scope, but frankly, a person looking at me with a set of binoculars is going to get a lot less attention than someone pointing a rifle at me and scoping me out.

    I have no experience with Brunton optics, but I would suspect they are decent quality as Brunton puts out good products. And...holy crap! Those are $1000 minimum glasses! Just checked their website. Doesn't sound low end to me, at least not in price. Which model did you get?
    Experience is a cruel teacher, gives the exam first and then the lesson.

      these are f x105 10.5 x 43

      if any of you guys go to a friends of nra banquet this was a choice on their "wall of guns' (i think that was the name of the game)
      i've done a little checking and i believe this was the most valuable item available.
      i had trouble believing i'd like this more than a handgun, but i do.
      i'll try to get me a handgun next year!

        Don't leave them laying around lol.

        Depending on what was on the wall o' guns, I think you got a great deal. I mean, if a nasty old Glock was hanging there, you certainly came off better. But if you passed up a Sig, I would think you lost out. :D

        (hiding from the Glock lovers now, especially since I'm shooting against one on Sunday)

          Great Binoculars are a must. It is funny but my son still some that Admin gave him back in 1999. They were not the most expensive but he still remembers who gave them to him. Thanks for the great memory my friend. GB

            No one gives away Glocks but I can see them handing out Sigs:)

            anyway, binos are something you will use, alot. If you dont like them feel free to put them in the mail to me COD of course :)

                Anything free is a good deal and sounds like you made out like a bandit!

                I have a few types of binocs. My favorite is my Scion 20X140X70 zoom binocs. I paid $70 for them on ebay a few years ago. The first time I used the full zoom I saw a cat walking through a corral exactly a mile from me and I could see the color of his eyes! He looked like he was right in front of me. This pair is rather large and long (13 inches long) but, like Grand said, they draw a lot less attention than a rifle scope.

                I will say that this pair is too powerful and hard to focus under 100 ft. and when you're at full zoom you need to really keep them steady.

                  I agree - good choice on the binoculars. I consider them a "must have" item. There are not many things in my kit that get used as regularly as the binoculars other than the first aid kit. If things get serious, then it is sure a lot nicer to see problems before you get there. The older I get, the more I depend on optics.

                  By the way, FNRA is a great place to get good stuff while supporting a good cause. I was on the local committee for 10 years, and on the 9th year, I finally won something - the airweight .38 that my wife carries on a daily basis.
