  • ThermaRest Sleeping Pad

For many years I have had a ThermaRest Sleeping Pad stored but had not ever used it instead opting for the older military foam cell pad. I used it on my recent trip not only as a sleeping pad for my cot but as a sight in rest. And yes we used cots, country was a little hostile with cactus, red ants and snakes.
I really like the ability to collapse it and get it in a pack over the foam cell.

It also came with a repair kit which is good because I layed mine right on a small cactus I didnt see under the weeds.

I had a thermarest , it survived damn near everything, except my jack russels teeth.
Carry as little as possible , to obtain as much as needed.

Avoid the Big Agnes inflatible pads. They don't last long at all.

I guess I am Captain Cheapo because I buy Pool floats for less than $3 and sleep like a boss. They are super space savers.
I looked at pads before and just can't justify spending the cheese.
Gonna sleep on my neon green one in my hammock this weekend. May even float on the river.

I wouldn't depend on that system for anything other than warm weather, back yard camping:p.

            You win on this. :)
First time I used the float in the field rather than round the house testing. It rocks for tent/ ground use but in the hammock its a no no.

I love out thermarest. Just got the Queen a pro-lite that packs very small. Remember it will last longer if they are stored flat with the valvue open.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

Just bought the Thermarest trail scout today at Academy. Since they are out of ammo, might as well shore up the rest of the gear.

I got the Regular even though I am 6'2, 230. They didnt have the long but I dont care if my feet hang off.
Very small, smaller than a football.
Weighs 1lb 8oz which is what I like.
My hammock is 14oz, my sleeping bag is 2lbs so this fits right in.

I like the dark greenish color, matches my eyes.

Tested on the hardwoods. I was amazed that after a minute its ready to lay on. I liked a little firmer so I gave it a couple of puffs.
Transferred from floor to pad a couple of times and man there was a difference!

Its like the memory foam on my bed. I cant wait to try this in the field. It will go in the hammock and the tent and fits perfect in my pack. Its even light weight enough to strap to the outside of my pack.

Only drawback is the bag is a little too big for it but I can look past that.
Gonna get a repair kit just incase.

                  So far, so good.

Pool float goes back to the pool. :)
