  • Ham Radio License

I know there's a test to take before you can operate a HAM radio. How difficult is it? Is there study material? My grandfather was big in to it, His call letters are W6BZQ. I never got into it when I was younger, but would like to put one in my car.

The test isn't that difficult. There are several places online to take practice tests try qrz.com & I think freehamtest.com. Do a search for CA Amature Radio and you will probably get links to clubs in your area that can help you.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

Depending on what class license you obtain, you may have to take 3 tests.
Each class license has different privledges, and they each build on each other.

Here's some "prepper Oriented" info on ham radio I've posted in "The Basic" subforum:

That's all there is these days - written tests. Gone are the days of copying cw and answering questions about the message.

            BTW, HA..congrats!

i did the practice tests on line for aobut 2-3 months and took the test, it is one test fee for all tests taken that day, so i took the tech and general one after another, passed both, got my ticket, i would recommend you do the questions for both tech and general and when you can get 90% onboth the tests you are ready to go.
