I made my mind up, bought the PVS-14 from JRH. I don't know any of those people personally. I'm not making a commercial for them.

I just tried out my PVS -14. I had bought an off brand NVD awhile back($200) at a gun show just to try one out. I wasn't impressed. This unit is BAD ACE! It looks like day down the driveway and the surrounding fields. My wife even said we need another one! I'll be storing up in my piggy bank for sure. If your on the fence. Do it! What a combat multiplier! JRH threw a minor surgical kit in the mail as a gift. A good experience. We'll see how resilient the unit us. I'll keep y'all posted.

now im not sure if this is true with the the civilian brand pvs 14s but for the military they need to be purged once a year. the quality of the site picture does degrade over time if they are not purged. you lesson the need to purge them by not turning them on while its light out, or thats what i was always told by ncos in the army and not over using them. also they don't work as well with no illume, if its overcast and no moon especially in thick brush you won't be able to see the ground very well at all. I fell into a seven foot ditch on mission because of this. that being said they are very good nods, as the technology progresses and they become cheap i'd highly suggest thermals as well. also nvg/thermal set ups that you can see both at the same time are excellent. problem is right now they cost the military like 15k a set for the nods/thermal and not sure if they even available on the civilian market. another thought is to buy a ir flash light/helmet light/ head lamp. with no illume those are money as long as the bad guys don't have nods too. also ir laser for your weapon would be a huge force multiplyer.

hope this was informing for those who didn't know about that stuff yet.

Yep depth perception always is risky and has a hard learning curve with them for sure. Dumped a duece and half one time in a "ditch" (deeper then the gun turrent) LOL and smacked myself with many a branch while runnin and gunnin but they are worth every dime. Great info
