  • Keep 'em dry!

I'm sure someone has thought of this before me, but I'll share it anyway. I started using the vaccum seal packs from Wal-Mart. You know? The bigger ones that you use your vacuum to suck the air out. I stuck an extra pair of pants, socks and shirt into the bag and vacuumed it down. Works great in the BOB, just in case you need it and happen to fall in to a creek or get caught out in a rain storm. Just thought I'd share.

Honestly, this can be a good and a bad thing. If your BOB is packed really tight with the vacuumed bags, it will make it hard of not impossible to repack your changed clothing.

So the key is to make sure you have sufficient space in your BOB for repacking dirty clothing.
Experience is a cruel teacher, gives the exam first and then the lesson.

I had thought of going this route. But, unless I am going to be packing a vacuum in my bob, when I change I won't remove the air like when I had sucked it out and will probably have issues with repacking.

I do use a 2 Ga. Ziploc bag. After I put a reasonable amount of clothes in a bag. Not over stuffing it and making it too bulky. I zip close the opening until it's almost closed then I kneel down or hug it to my chest and close it off the rest of the way. I can usually squeeze out a lot of air making the "vacuum" effect but it rarely lasts as these bags are not truly air tight.

      Just another thought.
A desire changes nothing, a decision changes some thing's, but determination changes everything.

Bed, Bath and Beyond as well as other retailers sell packing bags that require no vacuum. You place the clothing, etc in the bag and roll it forcing the air out of a one way valve. It works great for saving space. I used it on a long trip my husband and I took several years ago and we were able to leave one bag at home.

Those space bags will not stand up to being carried in a backpack. Buy the Sea to Summit dry bags for everyday use. I duck hunt and the ziplock, seal-a-meal, space bags, etc. will not hold up most of the time even for a weekend of gettin' after it.
