  • I need Ideas for changing the color of a nylon tent

I was just given an old 4 man tent - Its been well used but is structurally sound and I plan to use it as a Guinea pig for some of the modifications that I've been wanting to try

The first problem is that the tent is BRIGHT RED

I've read on the net that some people paint them and then re-waterproof them. Also I heard that some people use Ritt dye to change the color

I would like opinions and suggestion on what to do

I dont think so but dunno for sure, hopefully some others will chime in and maybe Spock will jump in here too

bath tub. or what makes a cheap large water container......a 50 gallon plastic garbage can. nylon of all types dyes well in my experiance. I used to be into rc car racing in the late 80s early 90s and we would rite dye our parts for fun. you're going to need a large ammount of hot water and alot of dye. if you weigh the tent you can figure out how much you'll need. keep in mind the tent is RED so you'll probably be able to do a rust brown color with it.

Yep borrowed one from the cooks when I did my gear and used the stove in the barracks dayroom that no one was living in at the time and was due for remodling! Washed and cleaned everything up, left no trace and no one was the wiser and the house CSM was happy cause I didnt mess up nothing in her kitchen!

If you look online they sell upholstery paint and even at most Auto stores like autozone sell it. It comes in spray cans so might look into that
Whats the point of having and not knowing how to use? You dont have a car and not know how to drive it do you? Having the tools for the job is worthless with out the knowledge of how to use it!
