will strobe lights still play havoc with the new nvg's ?

All white light plays havoc with NVGs as far as the person is concerned.

We have repeatedly watched very bright ground fireworks including the "strobe" type ones with our PVS14's and never had so much as a slight dimming down.

2nd Gen military stuff had "auto brightness control" which acted like the part of your eye that closes up a little bit when bright light comes on. It would slightly dim down the tube (remember 2nd gen military) to protect the tube.

3rd Gen Pinnacle Autogated technology what some unscrupulous dealers call "4th generation" (there isn't a 4th generation out) is MUCH better than 2nd gen military or even earlier non autogated 3rd gen stuff.

Spock took a like 7million candlepower Surefire and shined it directly at one of my 14's at a GA campout a couple years back, it didn't even dim down, wasn't the least bit affected, etc.

I hesitated to upgrade to 3rd gen for many years, cause the early 3rd gen stuff didn't really impress me all that much. AND the price difference didn't match the performance difference.

      ALL THAT CHANGED
with the Pinnacle Autogated technology, and upon using one, I sold my PVS5's, a Patriot Pocketscope, another NVG and bought my first PVS14.

Now their is ONE unit that will do the job of: head mount or helmet mounted like a PVS5 or 7, rifle mounted like a PVS4 only not 500 lbs., or dangle around your neck and use as a pocketscope.

I can't comment on the russian junk, I saw too many of those POS go to crap in the 90's to ever bother with one. I can't comment on the commercial stuff. I stick with military spec for a couple reasons-

I can tell you on the russian, they go blank forever from damage or shutdown (right in the middle of what you were doing) or brighten to point where you can't see. The best are the units LD3 is mentioning. They also can't take near the beating the PVS models can in the normal bumps and bangs while wearing them and running thru dooways and vehicle dismounts. I had a russian scrap heap just from swiveling my head around to quick near a doorframe that cost me $200, so much for the cheap route.
I can honestly say I have never worn them on an op where strobes were used with the exception of the the multi-flash flashbangs were being used. It was difficult to stay on the sights and it was very CQC, 7yd max closer to 3-5 and I had to go back to reflex point shooting but the unit wasnt damaged at all it was just to dang bright. Never had the opportunity to rush a disco with strobes LOL

Ok here is your answer to russian cheapies. And before any of you patroitic American shoppers jumps me for having one it was a present from someone and I didn't even know I was getting it so lay down. I used a cree flashlight which I turn on and then change to strobe and turn it towards the unit. I didnt even get it pivioted all the way around before the unit shut down at around 8 seconds. I tried to get the unit to turn back on bit it wouldnt for another 30 seconds which is a long time when things are going bump in the night so again buy quality.
