Only a fellow tactical tailor understands the gee whiz wow-ness of a tape sewing jig...

On a production level, it has to be like a mechanic always having to buy new tools from Snap-On, a production shop seems to always have to be buying more equipment to do the job faster, for backlogs build and a shop can only produce as fast as the tailors and equipment allow. Let alone time to do R&D for new and better gear... But it sounds like a great way to make a living, if self-employed...

Looking at that video, I noticed that it was not a walking foot machine, just a standard bottom feed dog... Thanks for the detailed view. I am on search to find one affordably for my Consew 206RB.

Some folks will try to convince you that you MUST have a walking foot. There are some applications where they do make life a bit easier, but you can still do most everything with a standard machine. A walking foot is not "mandatory".

Craigslist has an industrial Singer 241-3 (the "-3" means the heavy duty model) with table and clutch motor for $150obo that is just a 1 hour drive from me. It is a non-walking foot and the tape jig is much cheaper for this one. Plus it was owned by a sewing machine mechanic who is now passed away and looks like brand new, only minor finish wear before bobbin plate. I see a new machine for me soon... All set up to sew tape.

PS. sorry to hijack your gear thread for sewing stuff...

Hey hawk.....ever think of doing stuff for our 4 legged friends?
I've got commercial made junk...but it would be cool for them to be more robust /modular than they are. But in harnesses and saddle bags (packs) . We use ours each day...pack 3-5 times a month...but baby blue sticks out.LOL .
              .
Been milling it over in my head....but..figure see what you think on your end. I know a ton of us plan to have our dogs with us either as bug out partners /patrol or out doing their job protecting the homestead..no sense why they can't have a basic sturdy pack or in my idea just panels attached to a standard harness that hold some BA or side plates? Just brainstorming ...sorry.

Hawkeye, do you have any 5.45 AK stuff that didn't get sold for one reason or another, ready to go? chest rig or bandolier...

Figured I would see if you had any unsold items before placing an order...

Thought about it...yes. But its a daunting task just due to the amount of variation in size, shape, etc.... That, and honestly there just hasn't been time.

Any cool looking, unlisted 1000D fabric patterns available besides what is listed on the web site? Combloc pattern?

Stuff we get at the stores is multi size up to x point. Think like BDUs his they cover 2-3 sizes up /down. The harnesses are basic webbing with fasteks and hard point for leash attachment. Adjustments made with slide locks.
packs are about the same. My dog is on that Med /large area (45 lbs) but swims in her Med sized saddle bags.they are adjusted all the way and she fits. That same pack would fit a German shepherd. Just saying if...exact sizing wouldn't be needed...unless a person gave specifics. Like torso girth /length. But I wouldn't do that unless it was a full custom big $$$$$$ job.

                          Just an idea ..was all.

I started mulling this during the fall hunting season, hearing the complaints like yours from hunters who use dogs about standard commercial made in China stuff... This is an area I hope to explore this year and meet with dog owners on in my area, which hunting with dogs is very popular. I know it is very popular down south too, for hogs...

Maybe make it a side home business making semi-custom dog harnesses and leashes to justify my machinery.... LOL! Getting my second machine (pic of it previous page) for my shop this weekend. Now if I can just find a good zig-zag bar-tacker on Craigslist cheap...

                                Alas, the endless problem... Value.

Looking at the pic, there is a LOT of complexity going on there, and a LOT of materials to measure & cut, and a LOT of sewing time. That could take a small business tailor a whole full day to make, easily. Then add in the hardware (buckles, d-rings, etc...), and the materials (webbing, tape & mesh fabric), I could easily see how that would be a $375 item for any American who actually wants to make a living as a "tactical tailor."

I know first hand how much TIME it takes to make a chest rig, and hours pass away quickly....

This is why so much stuff is made in China.... Make it affordable to the masses.
