  • Alcohol stove ?

I got a trangia alcohol stove burner for next to nothing. Any tips using these?

Never assume it has gone out. I've seen people think that it has used up the alcohol and tried to refill it, only to find that it is still burning. It burns with a hot blue flame that is nearly invisible outdoors. To make it visible just put a drop of water in with the alcohol, It will cause it to still burn hot but there will be a yellow tinge.

My Dad's had a Trangia for years now...twenty or more IIRC. Works like a charm although a tad heavy since it's all brass.

You should be able to run HEET in it as well. Makes for an easy fuel to pick up pretty much anywhere.

An alcohol stove is the number 1 thru hiker stove for the AT. 100% reliable and lightweight. Denatured alcohol works the best in mine. I have also used HEET in the yellow container. A good windscreen will improve your burn times and efficiency of the stove.

Go ahead and start using it now. I use mine around the house ,to boil a cup of water for coffee, while I am cutting wood. The more familiar we are with any piece of gear, the better.
