  • Bear Grylis Knife

It's a survivalist knife for someone that wants to be found. I thought it would be good for my hunting bag as it has the orange in it and we are required to wear orange in alot of big game hunting here and it's not really designed as a combat knife. The blade is a mix on serrated/straight cut. It has a notch cut out in the back for the firestarter, 3 holes for lashing to a spear, flat pommel for hammering (which is where i hear some issue may be) and a decent enough sheath. I will make one of my 550 key fobs to hang from the bottom of the sheath. It has ground -air and an alpine signal chart on the back of the sheath for rescue. The grip is rubberized and feels real nice.

Ok, after seeing those awesome pics, the only complaint I have is that the blade is serrated and that it isn't in my hunting bag!
Awesome Matt, let's see you make a fire now!

On the spear: A pole needs to be selected, trim all the excess material from it.

If a side mount is going to be used for the spear then a notch or v should be located to give the knife/spearhead a backstop so it doesn

Hey Matt, I saw some reviews on Amazon that early versions of this knife had handles that easily separated from the blade. It looks like Gerber tried to blow that off as "beta" models. Have you done any serious tree limb chopping or cutting with yours? I worry about any knife under those stresses that doesn't have a full tang.

I read those as well and so far no issues. It looks like they got them fixed. It's sad that they produced it like that. They must not have enough "survivalist", outdoorsman or Military working for them anymore.

To answer the questions on the blade coming loose on the amazon reviews; I hacked a branch down and I beat thru the similar size branch right next to it using a fist sized rock but the movie didn’t come out (sorry). The blade and everything else stayed intact with no issues. I’ve done some other stuff too and the finish is starting to wear off but that’s about it.

Used it to skin a deer, it performed quite well. I would like a guthook! Overall I'm very pleased with the knife. It now needs to stand the test of time!

I got one for fathers day. I was reluctant to do much with it but my daughter insisted I take it camping with us and use it. I was pleasantly suprised , it now stay strapped to my pack as a back up . It batons well , and held a pretty good egde, even used the striker . Gerber didn't do to bad.
Carry as little as possible , to obtain as much as needed.

I used that knife multiple time in process of cleaning that deer in video above and works great had no issues out it when it can time to split bones apart
Whats the point of having and not knowing how to use? You dont have a car and not know how to drive it do you? Having the tools for the job is worthless with out the knowledge of how to use it!

I have thought about getting one of each of the BG knives. Not so much for using, but I figure when he kills himself doing some stupid stunt, the knives will quadruple in price.

I think my tin foil is too tight.

hahahahaha you wont any of that with me and my knife. Too dang old and too smart! I aint never seen no one run around that away and get rescued or survive for long. He burns more calories between commericals than i'd burn all day but i'm real happy with the knife, dont think mine will go up in price the way i've beat it up though:)
