  • Bug out Bags about completed

I have been putting together items for my BOBs for a while and finally got everything together. I am sure that it will always be an on going process.

Mine includes my rifle, pistol and 85 rounds of ammo and all my survival gear and the best of all...it weighs only 25.3 lbs!

Mine is a medium size military surplus pack and contains:
    2 MREs
    3 power bars
    canteen/water
    compass/firestarter/whistle combo
    fire starter
    matches
    bic lighter
small led flash light/spare AAA batteries
    first aid kit
    tube tent
    100' paracord
    4 plastic tent stakes
    military poncho
    military poncho liner
    insect repellent
    all purpose tool
    knife
    water filter straw
    purification tablets
    wet wipes
    toilet paper
    space age sleeping bag
    mess kit
    camp stove
    sterno
    sporks
    duct tape
    2 pr socks
    2 underware
femine hygene products (in wife's BOB)
    hat
1 - Keltec Sub 2000 9mm (it folds to 16" long and fits inside the pack)
    1 - Glock 17 pistol w/thigh holster
    1- 17 rd mag
    2 - 31 rd mags
    85 rds of 9mm ammo

If you see a glaring omission, please speak up.

depending on how far you may have to travel might want to include a change of clothes and good walking boots, that's if you have to go on foot.

How accurate is the compass? most of the combo models are pretty basic and if you travel far enough while being off by a few degree you might miss your mark. that being said you may know your route to the BOL (using roads as a guide for instance), and the compass is just in case you get turned around.

I just got them together and now you want me to unpack them and take pictures.....y"all sure are a whiney bunch. ;-) BTW, since my home is the bug in location for the family, these are technically "get home bags". Pics to follow.

That's a whole bunch of stuff for a get home bag. how far away do you work? Personally i have a 15 to 30 mile walk, so i could be looking at 8 hours and don't plan on stopping long enough to eat to sleep. For my old job i would have to drive 100 miles or so for work and that kind of kit would be what i would want.

Matt you and that other dude (cant remember his name) blew my mind with yalls BOBS....I swear you guys must have some young legs....ahahah.

@barfife....maybe add a couple of big black trash bags, some sunblock, maybe a small baggy of river birch bark for kindlin, baggy with copies of your info, some junk silver coins, other than that looks good, especially that weight brother.

What you put in the BOB will also depend on the climate. You need more clothing, food, and water - depending on the distance you expect to travel and the duration of the travel. Also what kind of sleeping bag?

I am not afraid of carrying more weight. Especially water and food, because the load will lighten as I use it. Also I would rather have extra gear (as mentioned) and dump it if I had to move fast and far, than not have it and need it. But all in all you are on the right track and doing a great job. You are also right, the BOB will change as do circumstances and the purchasing of more gear.

Exactly! I'm just trying to get an idea of what kind of trauma barfife is planning on handling. In mine, I've got some bandaids, rinse, betadyne, and stuff to treat 1 sprain. I've thought about getting some compression bandages but don't know if I could justify the added weight.

I am semi-retired but sell metal buildings on commission so I can be anywhere within 50-60 miles from home. The big thing is that I live 5 miles west of a big dangerous river to cross if I am stranded to the east. There is only a bridge about every 10-15 miles. So I may have to "go around my elbow to get to my wrist" so to speak. Another concern would be who, if anyone, is controlling each bridge over the river.

the 1st pic shows what is in the main section and yes, the rifle fits inside the pack.

I carry the bandages I posted on, celox, CAT tourniquet along with one of them green Army med kits. If something bad happens to me or one of mine I couldnt justify not having it. I also use my bag hunting so it dang sure needs to be where one of us could fall or get shot accidentally.
