  • BCS AK chest rig review

So about 2 months ago I purchased an AK47 chest rig from BCS.

Beez Combat Systems is a tactical gear manufacture and is dedicated to developing and producing the world's finest body armor carriers and tactical gear.
Beez Combat Systems has international channels of communication with Military, Law Enforcement, weapons manufactures and real world operators to bring you revolutionary products.
We believe in the "KISS" principle. It is easy to make something overly-complex but it is difficult to make it simple. We urge our designers to simplify and add lightness when possible.

Beez Combat Systems has been in business for almost 8 years now.

The above paragraph is the only information your gonna see in this review that was provided by the manufacturer.

I PURCHASED two of these units, one a couple months ago and then another maybe a month ago. BCS was doing follow up emails on their products- Professional, I liked that and may steal their idea ;) and I mentioned that I had a youtube channel, forum site, etc. and offered a review. BCS offered to send another to review.

It came quickly, their was no 3 or 4 emails about it and then six months to get. One of their reps called for shipping info and 2 days later the chest rig arrived.

It was the same way for the two PURCHASED units also, so I chalk it up to good customer service, not just throwing some good service my way cause I was doing a review for them. 5 stars on customer service and professionalism.

    So the rig itself-

I've been training with it a little while now, one formal class and a lot of practice at the home range. Someone brought up a good point about longevity of gear after regular usage including the effects of sweat, UV light, etc. Well I can't wear it every day, but I've worn it 3X a week running. Just to try to add to the sweat effect, I've been running without a shirt so the rig itself would suck up all my sweat. I've left it outside during a couple rainstorms also.

Basically I've been trying to "condense" the effect of weather, sweat, UV from a longer period of time on it, in a shorter period of time.

The testing is NO WHERE NEAR done on it, to be sure. But so far, I've been very impressed.

The fact that I purchased two of these before getting the one for review might have given that idea also.

    Pros-

It's a very slim design, fits closely to the body and hold 5 AK mags. They have an AK74 model rig and I want to say they have other models as well.

The rig is very comfortable. The wife has always disliked the feel of our vests. She usually uses an Eagle vest and is always complaining about the way it rides. I told her to start wearing the BCS chest rig when she walks and she likes how it feels and rides. She doesn't run with it, but she walks a couple extra miles a week in it. So I guess it's getting more use than I originally stated!

The MOLLE attachment points on the front allow you to pack the front with whatever you little heart desires. I'm still playing with this part of it. At first I attached a two pistol mag pouch but I found it changed the perfect for me balance of it when I ran. Running a mile a couple times a week with gear like this tends to show you a lot. Unbalanced gear is a real PITA to run in. I added another pistol mag pouch opposite side to see if that would bring the balance back yesterday. I'll know more late this afternoon during our run.

The slimness of the rig might prove helpful to those in city and suburban areas. This actually could be concealed under a large coat quite nicely. Not suggesting that for every day non SHTF use however. :)

It's pretty affordable- check their Ebay store for low starting bids on this rig.

    Cons-

Some won't like the bungee cord, open top type setup. Hey, let's remember we are talking about AK MAGS here, not those beer can material AR mags ;) Your kidding yourself if you don't think your AK mags will take a fair amount of dirt and still function.

That being said, is it really a problem? Well that can be debated. I've thought a lot about it and I've rolled around with this rig on. The mobility is a plus. Since I've lost the extra weight I've come to appreciate quicker mobility on the ground- basically having 50 lbs. less "arse" to move around helps like crazy.

As to the addition of a flap- it might keep some dirt off. However your probably going to carry your mags bullet points DOWN anyway, so the dirt is going to have to 1. Make it in the top 2. travel all the way down to the bottom of the pouch and then 3. Defy gravity and climb up inside your magazine.

Some might argue that the strapping is thin. It may be. It certainly probably wouldn't hurt to have it just a smitch wider. However for both me and the wife, the straps aren't an issue. She's usually the first to start mentioning how things "ride" on her and as a chic she has much different curves than I do. :)

Don't worry, I'm not done with it. It will be abused more ON VIDEO ;) This is just the "softening up" phase with the sweat, rain and UV light. You all should know me enough to know I'm not gonna do a "puff piece" on something I don't think is decent. Also, like I disclosed at the beginning, I PURCHASED two of these already, so it's not a "I'm just doing this to get a piece of gear and I want to keep it nice cause it's for me" type BS review wherein all you see is some guy playing with it on his bedroom floor.

However so far so good. 5 stars for customer service, quick shipping and no "We are going to send you one" (but never actually do) run around BS.

      Cheaper than Dirt.

I got a rig from Cheaper Than Dirt a month ago and yesterday I got to put it into practice. I wanted something lightweight and versatile and this fit the bill. This is check rig by Condor. While their stuff was crappy about 3 years ago, they are putting out some decent stuff today. I added the kangaroo pouches from Condor and I have an awesome chest rig. I the padded straps are very comfortable. All in, i spent $60 bucks and it is well worth the money.

My goal was to find a chest rig to wear during a bugout that would not interfere with my pack, but still leave me able to reload a magazine and get back in the fight. Dont know if this is the best place for this review, but thought I would add some options for others out there looking.

        LD3,
How do you feel the BCS compares to the US Palm Attack Rack? The Attack Rack is about $60 more, but seems to offer a bit more. I like the BCS from your review and looking at the website, but am concerned about the shoulder strap width. Also, can you wear a pistol belt with a Y harness under the BCS rig? How about a hydration bladder? I like the 1st, 2nd and 3rd line set up and would feel that the BCS (or US Palm) would be good for the 2nd line.

I guess there will never be a perfect set up, so we will always be looking for the closest thing to perfect. Thanks for posting the reveiw. I'll look forward to your real world testing. Knowing you, you'll put it through the paces!

PSD- The chest rig is still working out great. Have used it in a couple more classes and a fair amount of home practice. Wearing it all day for several days has shown- at least to me- that the concern about the shoulder strap width was unnecessary. That being said, if you added 45 lbs. of gear to the front of this, via the MOLLE webbing that's on the front, that would definitely change things.

Also note that since I've lost the weight I'm more "boney" everywhere, especially across the shoulders. If the straps weren't wide enough for regular carry, I'd feel it by now.

I have added to the front two dual pistol mag pouches- one on either side, extreme left and extreme right. And a TDI knife in the center. Four 17 rd. Glock mags and a knife doesn't add a lot of weight but it allowed me to give their MOLLE webbing a better try.

The wife has used hers on more than one occasion- her "outfit" as she calls it LOL. She's never gotten used to the feeling of a vest, but likes how this chest rig rides on her and has no problem with retrieving the mags from it.

Going to be finishing up a video review of this soon. I hate to "endorse" something too quickly without giving it some WORK. When we review stuff, it's not the "I just took it out of the package and laid it on the floor and said "oh and ahhh" a couple times about it on video." We don't play those games... :)

Cannot wait for the video. Knowing how you run if you are giving it a thumbs up, it must be worth the money. For $80 it seems to be a good deal....good price for a well made product.
