an old memory came up. it snowed today. doesn't do that here often! .
decades ago... (i'm not revealing how young i am!) i was an asst. camp counselor at a boys church camp near the ga. coast. for the summer.
every week we took kids to a neighboring island for one night. and camped.... i was harassed because my sleeping bag was thick and heavy.
it was ww2 era that i had hijacked from a veteran. the accusations were true, but i liked it and i was proud to use a veterans sleeping bag..
one week it stormed. during our island campout.
i was dry. i didn't want to get up. but most folks had el cheapo lightweight models.. (keep in mind this was ga.. it doesn't get cold here in the summer. BUT this was near the coast and it rained a lot.
we got all the wet campers up and had a long hike back to the cabins... part of trip was over a long board walk over the marsh. some kids stuff went in the marsh that night.
moral of story. some of that ww2 stuff kept me dry!

then. a few decades later, i was camping with some folks, and the temps dropped low. 17 degrees farenheit (sp?) on one guys thermometer.
this time i had borrowed another veterans sleeping bag. it had ecw or something similar on the labels. i think it stood for extreme cold weather.
anyhow, worked great!. this vet left a lot of gear in our barn. mice get in barns. mice like cloth type material.

moral of story, consider getting some millitary ecw sleeping bags. or whatever the proper initials are.

or get a camper with several methods of making heat!

Prices on military ecws bag systems I saw went from $200-$400+. Prices might be better at a "real" military surplus store. Considering the temperature range (+50 to -50), it sounds like a good buy. Better yet, see if any of your vet friends have one they'd like to part with.

We had a nice little motorhome that had a good furnace, but we included an electric ceramic heater and a Buddy heater for just-in-case.
