Nice Job! I think this brings home an important point here. You gotta get out in your own AO and see what works for you. There are some great cammies out there, with a lot of R&D behind them, but, it's really irrelevant if it doesn't fit your terrain and situation.
Hawkeye brings out a another great point about the construction features, in particular the use of buttons -vs- velcro. Right now, Big Army is not really concerned about soldiers pockets making noise when opened. Or the fact that it sometimes takes two hands to do it. Or the fact that velcro can clog with mud and become useless. But you should be. Operating in small groups, using stealth as your main weapon, requires another level of fieldcraft.
If you live and/or will retreat in rural, wooded terrain, you will probably spend some amount of time patrolling in the bush. Ranging from a simple security patrol around your perimeter, up to a deep reconnaisance mission to see what's going on in your area. The weapons and equipment that we will require are going to be different from what you see the military (and police) using, IMHO.
This thread was a great help in my new camo set purchase.... I went with Propper's Battle Rip in Woodland Digital. Full suit: pants, jacket, hat, belt...
They appear well made, but was surprised they were MADE IN CHINA... LOL! Can't escape it...
Only complaint is the sleeve cuff is too big, even with the velcro closed all the way. I will have to sew it smaller myself as a mod.. Not sure why anyone would need sleeve cuffs the size of pants legs...
Yes, as much as I too dislike the Made in China label, and try to avoid it when I can, often its just not possible. And yeah, the cuff's on the Proppers are a tad large. I wear them all the way closed up, and still have a little room, but not a whole lot. I prefer them a little loose though. One day, I'm going to just break down and make up my own perfect BDU. One with the prepared citizen in mind, and not so much the Military or LE.

It would be interesting to see a list of what you want that cannot be done with mil/le bdu's or tactical shirt/pants... I can't think of anything except pockets sized exactly for my stuff...
Maybe modify an existing bdu? No need to re-invent the wheel, just build on it...
Just fixed the sleeves today with about 15 minutes of sewing. Loose with velcro out and I can get a nice snug wrist fit if needed with velcro closed. Here in VA deer ticks are a big concern (lyme), so I like tight openings... (lol, that sounded bad...)
Honestly, the biggest thing is the material choices. I'm a really big fan of 50/50 NYCO ripstop. Its hard to find much of anything made in it anymore. There are also things that I dont like about most existing BDU's, that I'd do differently if I were making them myself....little to no velcro usage, etc. I've been modifying some of the ones I have...but for the time and effort, its easier to make them from the start the way I want them.
Ticks..... I've been to VA. Definitely ticks there. Killed over 100 in my back yard in about a 2 month span here.... was so bad a year ago, they were coming in the freaking house. Would find them crawling around on the furniture, walls, etc... So yeah, I feel your pain. We have ourt share of ticks here in NE FL too.
