I have both a get home bag and a BOB. The get home bag is a smaller version of the BOB and is in a normal looking backpack while my BOB is an alice pack. Some of the stuff is transferable like the two way radios, hat, weapons, etc. i keep the get home bag in the car all the time and my BOB stays home.
-
i have all my important papers stored on a thumb drive in my fannypack and hard copies of identification papers in my BOB.

BOBs for a family with small children have a lot more wieght! We're having another child this Feb which will make 3 under the age of 4. They require constant change as kids outgrow the clothes you pack for them every couple of months!

Sometimes we get so bogged down with lists of stuff, that we lose sight of what the dang BOB is for in the first place. I don't expect, or plan, to use my BOB to cover every possible contingency. All I want it to do, is help me get from Point A, to Point B, and cover food, water, safety and security.

For those that don't know, the DD 214 (or Department of Defense Form 214) is the form they give us upon military retirement. :)
I too have do***ents stored in key locations (not in my BOB). One do***ent I didn't see, your financial do***ents I see pay stubs, but a copy of your bank statement goes a long way in ensuring the bank knows you have an account and money in there when TEOTWAWKI happens. I also have copies of all mutual fund accounts (yes they are not current-but they show my name and account number).
Finally, I have a list of the debit cards (wife's account and mine) to call and CANCEL the cards immediately upon SHTF. From then on, until things clear up, we will survive on money under the mattress and our survival stash. Could you imagine a localized SHTF and someone finds your debit card you dropped, gets out of the danger area and starts going nuts?!?! It could be weeks, possibly months, before you caught them and stopped the shopping spree.

Good morning everyone. I would like to put in my 0.02c worth on BOB’s. I live and work on the outskirts of a small\med sized city and plan to Bug-In during any civil difficulties. That being said, I have an alternate location to relocate to if the worst happens. If I have to leave, my house probably won’t be there when\if I return.
My BOB contents look much like the ones posted so far with one major difference. I have included many do***ents in my bag. When I was searching the internet for ideas to stock my BOB I came across a post by a Katrina survivor who was transplanted to Texas. He was a professional (I think an engineer) who lost his business underwater. When looking for work he didn’t have all the credentials to prove he was certified to work in his field. He also didn’t have other do***ents necessary to start a new life.
Most of my do***ents are copies but they will at least be a start when I try to rebuild. I have them sealed in a vacuum bag and then zip-locked. They don’t take up much room.
A letter from the owners of my B.O. location providing permission to stay. This MIGHT help if there are roadblocks\checkpoints. This is water-proofed in a separate bag to be easier to use.
Personal Papers: Driver's Licenses, Birth Certificates, Social Security Cards, Marriage Certificate, Wills, Passports, Immunization Records.
Work\School Papers: DD 214, Diplomas\ Certificates, Current Resume’s, Work Licenses.
Misc Papers: Pay Stubs, Latest Taxes, Health\House\Car Insurance Cards, Home Purchase Do***ents, Mortgage Stub, Utilities Stubs, Auto Titles\Registrations, Phone Contact List W\Addresses.
If a Wildfire or tornado takes my home and my B.O.L. then I can rebuilt with a little less headache. If the world is truly at the end, then I have some good fire starter. Hope this helps someone looking for ideas.

actually, i have several pair in the truck. i service a couple gold mines and they require safety glasses be worn when on the property. safety rated sun glasses are stylish these days and i wear them everywhere.
the country i have to cross is mostly devoid of people. that is a blessing and a curse. there isn't anyone around to give me trouble but there's also no one i can go to if i need help either.

I wonder how many other people have "get home" bags as well? I know that's what mine is. I don't have nearly as far to go, but I have to go through some "interesting" areas to get there. My thought that if it hits, I'm going to be moving whilst the bad guys are still trying to figure out what happened. Can you say, "Situational Awareness?" You betcha.... On a side note, I do have a backup pair of sunglasses. They weigh next to nothing, and stuff does happen.

the bag is more accurately a get-home-bag. i drive a delivery route that takes me 150 miles from home. the bag is designed to get me home from the farthest point of my route. also, my philosophy is to pack anything i might need for every scenario and leave behind what i'm not likely to need at the time of the incident.Originally posted by Bearman202 View PostI didn't see any sunglasses there. You can get polarized sunglasses at Wally World for $5. Something to think about? As for the rest, it looks like you're planning on a six-month excursion. i.e. it looks over the top, but then again, it's better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it, eh? IMHO, one of the most important things you can have in a BOB is a place to go. What goes does it do to have a week's worth of gear and no idea of where you're going to get more past that? Just a thought....
the sunglasses are on my face.

some things are so important it's smart to have several. firestarters are such, knives are another.Originally posted by Rmplstlskn View PostI'm a little confused... You had K31 ammo but then a Garand... And there seems to be quite a few knives...

i have a Garand for a combat rifle and a K31 for a sniper rig. the K31 has a powerful scope, not something i'd recommend in close combat.
