  • Water Purification

I have the Berkey water filter for filtering my water before drinking. But how do l store water for LTS and how long will it last?should i purify it at time of storing it?How would i purify it?should i rotate it often?
ect, ect.I'am at a total loss about this.I want to store it and run it through my Berkey filter system when i need it.I know that if you let water set in a bucket for very long,it will get stagenate.Someone please walk me through this.I know i probally sound nutty, but this is really driving me NUTS!!:o

I store mine in 5gl containers mostly and rotate every 6mths treated with bleach. I label the containers with the date. I try for July and december. it seems to be the easiest for me to remember.
In the case of what you are talking about I think the water may get stale but when you pour it in the berkley it will work some air bubbles in and mix it. If you treat it with the bleach and keep light out of it it wont go bad for lonfer periods of time.

6 gallon containers, and 15 gallon barrels. I fill them with tap water, and rotate every 2 years or so. No issues. longest was 2.5 years and a tonof folks drank it on a camp out with out issue.
buckets with lids will work as well if cleaned out or new.

Wow 2.5 yrs thats a long time! I dunno if I trust mine that long though maybe just me and my paranoia but thats neat. I did my bi-annual rotation today for my 5gl containers. I have several military water cans, an insulated European can with a spiqot on it that I picked up across the pond and one of those orange rubbermaid with pushbutton spiqot. The wife has appreciated those spiqots for the kitchen when things were down. I also keep 1gl containers handy for her so she doesnt have to manuver anything if I'm not home right away. She has a bad arm. I also keep untreated 1-2gl containers near the toliets for the women folk to flush with which is a big issue with them if/when stuff goes down. I label everything with stickers or sharpies with date and treated or not. Very Important.
                  Great Video!
@Christian for Israel thanks for the link.

To revive from the dead a very useful and important topic: water storage and purification long term.

NutnFancy of the infamous TNP Youtube channel recently did a video showing his water storage techniques and purification. His chosen long-term stabilization method for water is using "Stabilized Oxygen." This is my choice as well, but I don't read much about on forums... Check out the video and his testimonial on this method....
