  • Vacuum sealer discussion

Hey guys, A friend at work gave me a small vacuum sealer and I've never used one and was hoping for a few suggestions as good ways to put it to use

I did have one specific question

I want to sore away a few of the 2 pound bags of sugar for later wine making while they are on sale and was wondering if it would be better to leave the bag intact or cut it open so they air can be removed from it

Any input about good ways to utilize it as well as what kind of storage times I can hope for are welcome

    Thanks

I should have mentioned that it is one that looks like this

I have stored both ways and don't see any difference because the sugar bags are not airtight by any means. The savers are good for mylar but don't use their plastic bags. They are not good for long term at all.
    thats my 2 cents

Matt, can you use a vacuum sealer on mylar AND the vacuum sealer's heat seal?

Can't seem to find a new version of that clam style heat sealer on the PAW video...

Can you buy a roll of mylar the way that they sell plastic?

Yes I have used it with no issues. I have a foodsaver that I have used for years and have started using it on mylar with no issues and good seals.

I love the exchange of info going on here but my question hasn't been answered

Where can you buy rolls of Mylar to use in the vacuum packer?

The hops for my beer come packaged that way so I know someone sells it. I was hoping someone could give me a link

Thanks but I'm looking for something that will fit in the food saver

Needs to be 8 inches wide

Like I said, I know someone makes the stuff - I was thinking about calling the shop I buy supplies from and asking them
